Author Topic: Transmission? (for a vehicle)  (Read 451 times)

Something I've been thinking about quite a bit recently, is there's multiple sports cars and the semi trucks out there, but they're all 'automatic' transmission. Granted, they don't exactly have a transmission because they don't have gears. But something that's been in my head is; is it possible to add a transmission to a vehicle? Perhaps for the Turismo, its a remake of a Lambo, it would make more sense for it to have a transmission, would it not? Basically, you have a speedometer, and a RPM meter (for ease, so you don't have to listen for engine noises for people who have sound disabled), when you reach a certain RPM (let's say 5,000 RPM) you need to switch gears otherwise your vehicle wouldn't move faster than say 15bricks per minute. When you switch gears, same deal only it would be 35BPM then 60BPM and then 80BPM and then 100BPM. My question/suggestion I guess, is this;

Is it possible? And if so, would anyone take on the project?

If this has been made, please direct me to the thread.

Me and Racer were making a vehicle with transmission, but we never finished it. Our projects hardly ever get done. The mortar we made was literally in making for ~1 years.

Do you mind explaining how you did it? And how it worked and such?

Also if you could put a server up showcasing it tomorrow (if it works) that'd be sweet. :o

Well there was no forcing to shift in place. Shifting just lowered your braking and made your acceleration faster, if I recall. It worked by changing the datablock of the vehicle when you pressed the shift brick up button.

Mm, that would make sense.

That wouldn't work out too well.  :cookieMonster: Is there any way to modify an instance of a vehicle versus the datablock?

I suppose there could be a way to have 4 speed datablocks, and then a keybind for each, or a keybind for shift up/down...

I dont think this would work the same with keyboards but I would give it a go just dont add gear grinding.
