What happens if I press K when I recieve a gift in TF2?

I'm wondering, cause I hit K when I saw the window for it thinking it would remove the box.
It does that but what does it really do?

It removes the notification if you found an item or something.

It declines if you received a gift or duel/trade invites.

pressing k only declines duels and trades and just removes the alert if its a gift from a pile o gifts (you still get the gift)
