Author Topic: Forum reputation system  (Read 2296 times)

How about adding some kind of reputation system to the forum?
So that then if you make a good post people can vote it up and if it is useless people with enough reputation can vote it down.
Here are a couple of ideas:
  • If an OP gets enough up votes it is stickied under the posts stickied by mods.
  • In help, the OP can mark a reply as "the answer", this gives some reputation too and makes it show up under the OP in the first page too.
  • You need a certain amount of reputation to send PMs.
  • Make it so you need a certain amount of reputation to post in other boards than help, instead of needing a key.
  • Give a bonus for registering the key which is equal to the reputation needed to post in other boards than help.
  • Make it so that people with enough reputation can vote to close/reopen a thread.
  • Ability to vote suggestions/requests up/down and order them based on votes and age of suggestion/request.

PS. Yes, this is almost the same system as on the Stack Exchange network.

Meh.
I'm seeing a bunch of people spamming "down" on people's posts just for the fun of it.  Then the forum would turn into a "Who can get the most up votes" game.

Like I said, voting down would require a set amount of reputation.

No. Badspot would never do this and it would be an unfair system.

How would it be unfair?

A better idea is that if a topic gets 50 or more "Thumbs up" a week it temporary becomes sticky for the next week. And no "Thumbs down" button would be involved.

But we all know this won't happen anytime soon (or later).

All of that's stupid except for what's quoted.

It is so blatantly obvious this would never work on such an immature board.

Making topics sticky that way is a terrible idea. Hot Girls thread on Off Topic would sticky, and that would be terrible for Badspot's reputation if it looks like he promotes the stuff we do.

People who post in help don't always know which answer is the best. They might mark one, then find a new post which is even better and simpler and not be able to re-mark it.

Limiting PMs to a certain amount of reputation will simply make a stuffload of topics trying to talk to specific people instead. Terrible limitation.

Again, limiting usage by reputation is a terrible idea. It will only cause massive frustration with the immature people here voting down for simple mistakes or misinterpretations.

Then it'd be worth a cent more than $20 to buy the game.

Taking the control to lock away from singularly the OP and Administrators is a terrible idea. You know how moody people get.

The point is that the immature people don't get enough rep to do "bad" stuff.

Of course admins/mods should be able to exclude a thread from the auto-sticky part.

Of course the OP can unmark an answer at any time.

This can easily be abused.

Not if implemented correctly.

It will still get abused no doubt about it.

Explain how it can't be abused.
Only reputable people could abuse it, and the point is that they wouldn't.
