Author Topic: The Ion Cannon: Where have i seen this before?  (Read 6340 times)

Am i the only one who shrugged after seeing it again?
Correct me if i'm wrong/late , but the ion cannon that most of you might know was one from 2007 by Muffinmix.
I remember the ion cannon being made around V7, nobody really had a problem with it back then, there wasn't really a fail bin, but it lagged, yet i had quite alot of fun with it, blowing up saves.

And it just feels strange when somebody last year dug it up from it's grave and "reanimated" it in 2011, and it gets badmouthed and fail binned.

Not that i'm saying it should stay, of course not, it shouldn't be, but it's my blockland pastime being shown in my face and crushed, generally.

I dug it back up in 2010...
...and deleted it 1 week after.

I have and I've tried it. It just makes a really big crappy looking boom. Yay? It's not fun to any extent. Even the mini-nuke is more fun. At least the explosion looks good and the explosion isn't too big. But I still prefer the HE grenade over both of those.

Personally, I don't agree with add-ons being failbinned unless they cause problems like overwriting information.
I think it should be up to the people that host to decide to enable it or not, and the people that join to leave if they don't want to be on a server with it.

a man can only dream.

Most people's reaction to the ion cannon is pretty funny. Before there even was a failbin, most of everyone was perfectly fine with it. But after it go failbinned, suddenly everyone hates it.

Same with the mininuke: Before it was failed most people were indifferent about it, some people hated it and some people loved it. After it was failed, everyone hated it except for a few people, and if you don't hate it people will call you a noob.

At least that's how I think it happened...

Wishful thinking
Not to Ephi's taste > failed

more like Not to Ephi's taste = failed.
And if it wasn't all to ephi's taste, wouldn't he fail all those crappy decals?

I say, screw Ephialtes. If the host wants to host something that is bad, go for it, its only harming themselves.
I liked the Mininuke, it was interesting to test with, and was nice for spaceships. Its the only laser that would fit a giant ship, and you can even downgrade the projectile for smaller things and still have fun.
Other peoples Hate is another persons fun, deal with it.

Congratulations, you just reposted what I was saying.  :cookieMonster:

We've been over this many times. People should be able to download anything they want from RTB without the chance that someone can use what they've downloaded to screw up their server. If I knowingly allow something like that to be hosted on my service it's just irresponsible of me. You forget that the vast majority of the community are not as old or experienced in server hosting/add-on management than the tiny minority who are. RTB's a service tailored to the majority. Note that as part of being a responsible host I have to disallow any file being submitted to RTB which Badspot has put on the crap-on list.

If you don't like it, start up your own add-on hosting service and see what happens. I can't guarantee Badspot will be happy with you, but that's your problem.

If the add-on is physically fine, its not the developers problem they try to run it on a low-end computer which barely supports a decent brick count anyway. Any mid class, modern day computer can handle things like the nuke.

It's not my call. The mini nuke was failed by Badspot and I'm just enforcing his decision. Take it up with him.

Why is your answer always "tell it to Badspot?". That is a very dismissive answer which you like to use a lot.

Its one thing to refuse to provide the add-on through your content system, another to block it using your own in-game creation AND take action against people who do provide it, even off-site like I did last year.

This is Badspot's game. RTB is a service to help Badspot and the community. I would be doing a disservice to him if I was supplying add-ons which he didn't want to be made available to his users. RTB runs within the restrictions Badspot has laid out and I adhere to them as closely as possible. I am not the person you should be discussing those limitations with. I don't know what else to tell you or how else to phrase that.

RTB doesn't block the usage of add-ons, and your ID was blocked from RTB to prevent you promoting or distributing your add-ons using the service. This is pretty standard for anyone else who has promoted failed add-ons, it's not a special case for you.

It would be nice to continue discussing this without the accusatory overtones. I'm being polite by taking time out of my day to reply to you - it'd be great if you reciprocated. If you have a question, just ask it.
