Oh god yes. The first time you pick that baby up it's like showing up to a firefight with the death star. That thing will get you through about half the game before it starts to become obsolete.

I wish more guys dropped Laser rifles. This one time I invested a lot of my points into energy weapons and all I had for a while was this dingy laser pistol and a whole lot of nearly useless small guns. At least that time I had a good idea of what to face in the game so I spent my skill points quite wisely.
