is it bad that i think this is a great computer other then the ram?

You may need to get a bigger one.
Especially if you have steam games.

I have 150 gigs.

100gig SSD, 50 gig regular.

I haven't even filled up the SSD

I was about to post a "lol" image, but then realized that it would be pretty immature. Also you might want a bit more RAM. I personally have 600GB used of the total 1200GB. (2x600)

Sounds like my computer. Except my computer is an compaq.
Operating system: Windows vista home basic (V6.0 Build 6001)
System manufacturer: stufflett packard. (Original name: Hewlett packard)
System model: Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC (Although it works decent for gaming)
BIOS: PhoneixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.1
Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) SI-42 ~2.1GHz
Memory: 2814 MB RAM
Page file: 1511 MB used, 4326 available.
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G (Holy stuff almost like my old video card. And i was expecting an ATI)
Harddrive space: 43.9 GB free of 138 GB.
Decent computer?

Better than me I'd say. RAM related & page file (Let me understand you have dual core so processor related too).

So yeah, decent computer.

the only advantage to my dad's computer is that it has a 750GB HDD and he bought a 1TB external

and while we're talking about computers
what does the BIOS do

Stores the startup instructions for the computer. It's a program stored in a small chunk of memory on the motherboard. It storess the various settings used and loads the operating system into memory, and once a significant portion of the OS is loaded it hands over control over to the OS. That is why you see the "scary" black screen computer mumbo jumbo before you see the OS loading screen.

600GB of research or what?
Music, programs, games and random stuffs. research is way under 1GB.
