You don't fully control the means of creation so you have no regulatory power over inflation, and assuming you ever want the government to not completely cheat, you have less power to issue bonds or just straight-up print money.

I guess my point is, if the currency is fiat anyway, why isn't it sponge or grass blocks or something else that players can't ever get themselves?

If the gov'ment don't cheat (no /give) I'd wanna be in on this (jj10dman), but I'm sure they do cheat, so disregard in that case.
