Seems like Songbird actually has a notifier, but the iPod support extension is outdated.

He's got the newest iPod touch. I think he just wants to have the music playing through comp speakers as to avoid clutter.

If it is an Ipod Touch, download the Remote app, and you can use the Ipod as a "remote". It will also show the song playing.

Aye, I do that with Apple TV.

Whats so bad about winamp? It does everything you want.
