Author Topic: LAPTOP VS DESKTOP THE ULTIMATE DECISION!  (Read 2417 times)

Doesn't the chassis already have fans :O And do you think a network card is needed for gaming?

If by network card you mean an extra internet card, the answer is no, there is ethernet ports on the motherboard.

And, I'm pretty sure if you buy the liquid cooling kit with the IBP kit, then you don't receive the fans, but I could be mistaken.

Ugh no laptop. I like being comfortable near a desktop.

Desktops are btter than most laptops.

I want a loving alienware laptop.

I prefer laptops. Mainly cause i can bring them anywhere. And the keyboard is always in the perfect spot unmovable. I dislike some laptop touch pads due to the fact that they are loving uncomfortable. The newer Toshiba laptops are a example of a uncomfortable touch pad. Also

Laptop

Pros
-Can be carried anywhere
-Not very heavy
-Compact
-Can be moved more easily

Cons
-Usually not as powerful
-Can be broken more easily
-Some get pretty hot underneath (not a large complaint I am guessing)
-Can't adjust keyboard to a more comfortable position (built in keyboard)
-Not as many powerful ones and the good ones are pretty expensive

Desktop

-Usually more powerful
-Can be more expensive (usually depends on the computer you are getting)
-Can be taken apart for inspections and such more easily
-Mainly its just better cause it more powerful overall

Cons
-Big and bulky
-Heavier than laptops
-Can't be moved as much
-Not as popular anymore but doesn't matter much

Overall:
If you are a social person that goes on facebook and other webpages and such and travel a lot or don't want to stay in one spot then get with a laptop.

If you are a gamer or use powerful programs and stay at home a lot then get a desktop

I've always used a desktop myself, I can't stand laptops. Sometimes they're nice (i.e power outages :u) but I have never liked them.

How can you compare them, they both have completely different purposes. Like a hacksaw versus a bowsaw.

I'm not. I'm simply asking which one do you guys think is best for my types of needs as listed in the original topic.

A desktop.
They last forever if you upgrade them.

sounds good.

do you need to lug it around a lot? If not, desktop, and buy it from IBUYPOWER.

It also means you can now wish that you could play any decent games without it chugging at 10 FPS.
You can't even play Dwarf Fortress properly on a laptop, get a desktop.

Don't buy a prebuilt though, ship the parts individually and put them together yourself, the forums can help you choose what parts to buy if you need help with it

Because all laptops have the same specs.

My laptop runs all the Source games flawlessly, along with World of Warcraft, Assassin's Creed (a tiny bit laggy, but not much), Oblivion, Fallout:NV, Black Ops, and Two Worlds II.

Most people who get laptops don't want to spend to much money so they get a cheap $200-$300 laptop.
They aren't very fast so the majority can't play so many games with flawless performance.

I always have and always will use HP media laptops for gaming.  They are very fast and well priced.  My only complaint is that the one I have has a ton of extra keys for things like play, fast forward, mute, and even a calculator key.  The one I used to have was bigger and didnt have as many useless keys, but got smashed. :(
