How do I install Hats???

Hi everybody I am curious how to use hats, I have downloaded hat add-ons but I have no idea what to do after that? What does everybody mean by typing in something? I am so confused, please help.

Put the Hat_xxxxx .zip in your Add-Ons folder, and enable it before starting a server.

there are different hat systems, there is kind where you just type in something like /Hardhat and it will be mounted to your head or there is simple well where you need to be on the server long enough to unlock it and then you type the hat command.
you wont find the hats in the avatar section if thats where your looking.

I understand that much but say I want Xinakam's Daft punk helmets how do I enable them? I check them on my add on box but nothing happens when i get in a server. What am I missing?
