Thanks, please don't add AoE though :D
Its a good series of games, but Age of Empires is just not what I would consider.....an rts game because its basically a Civilization building game.
Then they build masses of units and just send them all to attack, then watch everything burn.
How is Age of empires not a rts game? In what thinkable way of a game which pioneered rts games not a rts game at all? Explain this to me.

Warzone 2100

How has it pioneered rts games? None of the Total War games have similarities to the game once, are you telling me that a game that plays more like a civilization building game(AoE) pioneered a hardcore, REAL time strategy game, where you control 1000's of units on a realistic battlefield with actual tactical terrain?

Don't like my 2 cents, ok then. I still like AoE I don't consider it a RTS though, I only see people build masses of units and wait for villages to be destroyed.

Total War is a Turn based strategy game with battles as a added feature. You cannot just pick and choose which game belongs to which genre because it couldn't support thousands of units with its engine.
EDIT: Why are you saying that Age of Empires is a civilization style game when Total War is completely focused on BUILDING a civilization.

If you don't think AoE is an RTS, you're stupid.

Regardless, Total War has always struck me as more of a real time tactics game, rather than a strategy game. The strategy portion seems like an after-thought.
Controlling thousands of units on a battlefield, that's tactics. Objectively speaking. Read a dictionary sometime.
There's no strategy there, is what I'm saying.

I don't think you understand what they mean by "real time". They mean it's not turn-based, basically. They don't mean to say, "THIS GAME IS SERIOUSLY REAL". Age of Empires is, objectively speaking, more of an RTS than any total war game. It has more strategy, less tactics, and is in real-time more of the time.

I.e, you're wrong in every regard.

I still like AoE I don't consider it a RTS though
I-
Wha-
You-
loving IDIOT

Okay, I understand what you guys are saying, so I will accept AoE as a RTS game now.

But Total War is more of an RTS game than AoE, also there is online play in TW which is completely focused on battling, watch a video or play it.

The Total War series is not focused on building civilizations, thats just an added bonus to the game, to give it some extra content. You can't battle on AoE without building some stuff first.

Where you will test your skills against other players is on the online portion, the hardest part of the game. If you think its a tactics game that requires little to no strategy, you are more a loving idiot than I was, you have to be able to counter other players movements and change your battle plan according to what your opponent does.

Edit: Also to you telling me to look up real time.
Real Time: the actual time during which a process takes place or an event occurs.

Total War is nowhere near a turn based game, as I said before the campaign was just an added bonus.

That's exactly what makes it a strategy game. Should I build towards this stuff and be ready for an attack quickly, or should I go towards being strong in the long run? Are archers more important first, or cavalry?

How is the Civilization building a added bonus? You NEED the buildings to make units or you will end up being weaker than your opponents.
