Author Topic: I'm considering enlisting in the military  (Read 6957 times)

I love the sea/vessels... so Navy sounds interesting.
Pros:
Most likely won't get sniped on a carrier
watching jets takeoff
manning huge guns
gettin' your sea legs

Cons:
Getting sniped on a carrier
Boats sinking
kamikaze airplanes
drowning

I talked to an Air Force recruiter for a few hours today. He was surprisingly honest. Also, I didn't know about some of the benefits:

-The Air Force has the highest standard of living. If we have to stay on an Army base, we actually get payed double because of this.
-Full health insurance up to $400,000. This includes dental. Also, you still receive salary when you're injured.
-The Air Force covers all living expenses on base and living off base is tax free.
-Food allowances are given and cover about four "home-cooked" meals a day on base.
-Most Air Force bases have golf courses, arts and crafts facilities, bowling alleys, tennis courts and swimming pools. These are either free to use or much cheaper than off base.
-The Military covers all college fees for any school and Air Force credits are transferable to any school.
-You receive many college credits from basic training and tech school.
-Personally, I will enlist as E-3 and get an automatic bump in salary.
-Depending on my ASVAB scores, I could get an enlistment bonus of around $30,000.

I've never talked to anyone who joined and regretted it.
cause they r ded

jk

Thats because who ever regretted it... regretted it because they died.
Most people with the job I'm going for never see battle.

Nvm, I'm not actually sure if that's true. disregard

He's kind of lying to you bones. First of all you definitely will not get an enlistment bonus unless you are in one of the career fields that required aditional years and the bonus would be a maximum of $15,000, realistically it would be nothing because the military is very very picky currently in all branches because they just have way too many people wanting in due to the economy. I got a 91 on the ASVAB which was the 2nd highest that day out of about 100 people and I got declined from the navy, marines and airforce solely because I once tested negative on a TB test even though I retook it and passed the next week. If you want to get in definitely do not say yes to ANYTHING, if you say yes that one time you felt dizzy 10 years back for 5 seconds you will be disqualified. Also a lot of those bonuses are just outright lies like that they will pay for any schooling, but the benefits are great, retirement after 20 years and full health and dental and assistance in paying for your house or you can live in the barracks and eat and live for free.

That's not something he told me. That's something that's happened to people I know.

Edit: Also, they do pay for school. That's common knowledge.

first off, have to be 18.

I would recommend...whatever the hell you like. Air Force, you get to fly state-of-the-art jets, Navy, you get to blow stuff up with missiles and sail the seas, and then blow more stuff up, Army are the grunts of the ground troops, and Marines are the hard-asses.

Problem is, you might get burned to death, blown the forget up, or you could drown, get shot and die a horrible slow death, or mutilated.
