you can't redraw the hair to put on the other layer?
it does sound like more work but it might fit better

Fortunately I'm subscribed to enough MLP subreddits that I get pictures no matter what weird event the main sub is having!

-snip-

I really need to clean out my dA inbox though, there's just so many things I want to save...

5,537 messages oh god somepony help me
i had 6000+ just a few days ago.
4000+ were from one group.

i haven't cleaned it out yet so it could very well be up to 8k now lol

whoa is me and my forgetfulness
due to forgetting to add a scarf, I now have a huge hassle on my hands

you've seen the original twilight with no scarf, here is new twilight with a scarf.

the dilemma? the scarf is suppose to be under her mane and because I forgot I was going to add a scarf, I didn't prepare the necessary layers to easily slide it under (in other words, a separate layer for her mane). i can't figure out how to perfectly erase it without it looking choppy :c

i keep thinking there might be some photoshop tool that could do this, but i don't know of anything and don't know where to go look or what to search for. D:

a second twilight layer is covering the cutie mark layer
fixed
blastdown.
try re-drawing the scarf entirely on a new layer but just cut-off once you hit the mane, basically just stop drawing once you hit the border of the mane layer.
this will make it seem like the scarf continues under her mane.

if there's any color overlapping onto the mane, just use the eraser tool to do some touch ups.
then finish off by moving the scarf layer below the mane layer.

i take it you're using a tablet and photoshop, right?

There's something off about the head/face that I just can't put my finger on

i think there's a tool you can use to have an overlapping shape erase it's own volume from another selected shape

in other words, if you used this tool with a big square and a small square, the big square would have a hole the shape of a small square

you could use this with the hair and scarf to perfectly erase the area you need

me too
it's like it's not all pointing the same way

I could, and it would likely be the easiest solution, but I'd much rather learn a new technique in removal of annoying pieces of artwork.

try de-drawing the scarf entirely on a new layer but just cut-off once you hit the mane, basically just stop drawing once you hit the border of the mane layer.
this will make it seem like the scarf continues under her mane.

(I'll assume de-drawing meant re-drawing)
I'm using a tablet, and although I am mainly using Paint Tool SAI I can easily transfer over to Photoshop.

With the re-drawing idea, I could just take the current version and erase all connected parts to the mane and then re-draw those lines/colorblocks (as i'll call them) and do what you suggested. Re-drawing the entire thing, although possible and simple to do, would be a bit more time consuming.

In the long run I could re-draw pieces to fix it, but I'm looking for a useful technique if one exists. If I get nothing, it would only take me <1 hour to redo the mane or scarf in a separate layer. Or not, my method is of drawing is time consuming too.

perhaps it's the eye position.
i haven't been able to figure out a problem but perhaps /r/mlpdrawingschool will point one out.

true, it would take time.
but be easier than redrawing that portion of her mane to overlap it. because you would have perfectly match its shape with the previous version and make it connect with the bottom tip of her mane in way so it doesn't look weird.

then again, you're using photoshop, whereas i use Paint Tool SAI, so my method for fixing this would be a lot simpler on SAI because photoshop is sometimes weird with how it does layering management.

but with how your art style is, photoshop is more suited for you anyway. SAI is more focused on just painting and sketching than photoshop is, whereas PS is focused on special effects and image editing tools.
not saying your art is bad lol, hell no. i love it.

i just prefer SAI is all, 1) i find it easier, and 2) kloudmutt uses SAI! :D

i use (and am using) SAI :I
i was just saying i could transfer if needed, i rarely use photoshop lol

anyway, there is no mane layer. the mane is combined with the rest of Twilight. that is why i'm having a problem, only two layers. one of the scarf, and one of Twilight.

you gotta separate your layers man! :U
the way i see it, the only efficient way to fix this is to either leave it that way or use my method (re-drawing the scarf but stopping just before hitting the scarf and using the eraser to do touch-ups.)

I'm guilty of not doing separate layers as well

I usually end up with with general sketch, line, line color, and fill layers, no separated parts

I layer everything. It's a good habbit to get in to.

have you drawn anything recently?

you gotta separate your layers man! :U

I normally do, quite extensively at that, this round I forgot to do so.
Or I merged them together and saved, I forget now.

most of my small stuff has at least 20+ layers

anything large scale differs from like 30+ to 50+ layers.
sometimes even more than 70.

have you drawn anything recently?

Been thinking about it

Hard when every idea on what to draw is filthy
