You'd think that, but magic is so powerful that the disadvantages don't balance out the sheer power... Unicorns aren't even that squishy so they could solo a high-tier raid boss

Not really, all that I've seen most other ponies use is low-grade telekinesis or minor local convenience stuff. Which is itself a powerful weapon, but they don't get a lot of weather-control related stuff.
Pegasi make up for it with a cultural history of being high-end, and because if they don't do their job then everything goes nuts.
Still, you have a valid point, and that's why my own OC team gives some abilities to the non-unicorns to make up for it. They're a little overpowered but Twilight and Trixie are the only two who I've seen use above-and-beyond abilities on a regular basis (except that frickin baby unicorn who levitated and phased through walls, which is another outlier).

After talking with my only IRL friend, a brony named Zach, I'm calming down. What happens will happen, and if you've only got some speculation about Skyra then it's not like it's automatically worst-case scenario.
The only thing about that pathetic character right now that would really worry me is if she was a flipping human connection.

Just kidding. In all seriousness, though, Zach's helped me mellow down enough to get some coherent thoughts worked out on the topic.
Regardless, it's just speculation at this point. Since we don't actually know anything about how they're going to try to jam this character in the episodes for their latest greed-driven mass-marketing scheme, we don't know what potential horrors may be unleashed (think if Twilight Sparkle gets freaking married suddenly for no good reason at the start of season four. That would shatter any perception of approximate age/maturity level connection that Faust had worked to develop).
It helps having someone else to share fears, plans, and ideas with IRL though. Zach's a good friend that way.
