Author Topic: Goblin Camp  (Read 1949 times)

Because the old topic was too old to bump.

Anyway, in my short description, Goblin Camp is a game like Dwarf Fortress but with much less of a learning curve and revolves around goblins and orcs. You start with some human corpses, 2 axes, 2 shovels, a team of goblins and orcs and a bunch of bread to get you started. You build a log stockpile, cut down some trees, make some planks then you go on from there. You face many dangers as you go on, including but not limited to killer bees, wolves, giants, minotaurs, human armies, treemen etc. etc.

This game has a risk and reward system, you gain access to new resources (I.E stone) and it comes with risks (In this case, kobold raiders and soldier ants emerging from the quarry randomly). Managing these risks is the difference between a prospering camp and your camp being a smoking ruin.

This game has plenty to do, and we're on the verge of an update, so that'll add some new stuff. That concludes my short description.

OTHER THINGS (ASK ME IF YOU WANT ME TO ADD SOMETHING OF YOURS HERE)

Falling to Pieces; Can YOU end this chaos?

Overpopulation, food shortage, stuffty infrastructure, a human attack on the doorstep, this place has it all.

Lemme give you a sitrep, general. You've got exactly 157 orcs and a handful of trolls to hold the camp, 7 are guarding the quarry so I suggest not moving them unless you want additional chaos. almost all the orcs have been mobilized and moved to the southern gate where they await the human siege, most of them are unarmed. Many of the orcs are currently moving there, a good chunk will not make it before the humans. Trolls are patrolling the territory, roughly 6 of them. If you survive the attack, good for you. Then you'll have the overpopulation (maybe XD), the food shortage and the infrastructure to deal with. Good luck, and godspeed general.

Pretty much the whole of the main camp; Spawning pool and (former) garbage dump to the north. Humans and river to the south.

The humans crossing the river rather slowly and the current orc army at the time of saving.

Protip: That is a LOT of humans.

Good luck.

Note, I made this as an attempt at making a good camp. The stuffty dump mechanic for items that go over the limit caused the population problems, general slugginess of the camp caused the food issues and the infrastructure I'm not sure. Have fun with this hellish nightmare of a camp (in my eyes).

Also note, this is a Citadel, with only a stone quarry. Don't ask how I got it in this much stuff.

(By me)

Have fun, Blocklanders.

ASCII graphics might as well be some kind of encryption code for video games, show it to somebody who has never played the game and they will most likely not be able to tell if you are building a giant snake or just moving stuff around.

So you're developing this game?
Also, is there anyway to learn ASCII graphics so that I can learn to play games like this and Dwarf Fortress? They seem like fun games but I really can't see what's going on.

is there anyway to learn ASCII graphics

No. No one can learn. Everyone who has said they've played the game is actually lying.

The game is easy, you're just too intimidated.

Whos that?

The OP says it's way less complicated than Dwarf Fortress and people say it's confusing?

ASCII graphics aren't too bad.

No. No one can learn. Everyone who has said they've played the game is actually lying.
I took this as sarcasm so my response is that I would like an easy way to learn how to look at this. I have no idea what anything is at all.

It isn't that hard to learn, it doesn't start out all that complicated. You see the letters and you can mouse over them to see what the are, it isn't too bad.

That, or you could try taking a crash course of Dwarf Fortress. That'll get you ASCII vision real quick.

No, I'm just posting it here.
