http://www.nethack.org/common/index.htmlNetHack seems to be based off of D&D, and it takes a bit of learning to get started, I recommend surfing the wiki:
http://nethack.wikia.com/wiki/Main_PageAlso, there is a tileset or whatever they call it, that will replace the ASCII graphics that can be found on the main website. There is also a neat isometric modification called Vulture's Eye, that I haven't tried yet.
Basically you choose from a fairly large list of roles (Rogue, Ranger, Monk, Knight, etc) and races (Human, Dwarf, Orc, etc) alignment, gender, and create a name, and stats will be rolled up and displayed on the bottom of your screen. This is generally the norm for D&D styled games. You are aligned to a grid and start out with several things based on your role and race, and you also have a pet. Your goal is to retrieve some magical amulet of sorts down past the 20th level, so basically you need to go down stairs the whole game. Throughout your travels, you'll find monsters, loot, shops, and a bunch of other neat objects in the world, not to mention the crap-load of items. One downfall of having soo many items, is that some of them will be cursed, and once you've been cursed, it's hard to remove, so I'd recommend checking items for curses (read the wiki).

I've been playing for a day or two now, and the furthest down I've gotten was level 6, and my score was around 5200, I was playing an Orc Rogue. If you play this, post how far you get!
