Stepmania is known best for it's dance gamemode and the many simfiles you can download and play on it, however it's much more than that. It allows you to not only play but create some of the best rhythm gaming content you'll ever find and with the most ease. It can fill the needs of many whether you're looking for some smooth straight forward simfiles or mindloving gimmicks. If you're not really a fan of DDR, there's pump it up, beatmania iidx, and 7 key game modes, plus many more are being ported as we speak, just for you.

Where do I get it?There are many different builds of stepmania available, the one I recommend is Stepmania 5, previously known as sm-ssc until it became the official build of stepmania.

The default theme looks like stuff. Where can I get themes?There aren't very many themes available, but those that are are very, very lovey.
Moonlight, the one I'm currently using. Good if you want a nice, clean interface with simple graphics.
Optical, which goes for simplicity up the ass and a huge array of different controls. It's mod selection is convenient once you get used to it, which you can access via pressing the "/" key in song selection. Also, it gives you a bunch of combo for holds.
Zenith, which is basically a red colorscheme of the default theme, cool if you like red more then orange/yellow.
Ultralight, which is a theme I've used for a while because I favored it's simplicity here as well. It's pretty much blue all over, blue is a nice color scheme.
PROJEKTXV, japanese style theme, good if you like flashy stuff everywhere.
Other common questions that don't require a new header.Q: The arrow keys are uncomfortable, how do I change my keys?
A: You can go under "config key/joy mapping" under the options.
Q: It's really annoying having to change my speed for every song.
A: Use an M mod, go to StepMania > Data > SpeedMods.txt and put in something like M500, it makes it so you don't have to change your speed mod and it sets it to just the right speed every song you play. It's a little glitchy at the moment but helpful nonetheless.
Q: What makes this game better than something like audiosurf or beat hazard?
