I am considering that :-D

The terrain is limited to a 256x256 repeating height field.  The default terrain square size is 8, yielding a 2048x2048 unit world.  Eliminating the terrain repeat requires c++ changes but they are fairly easy and the game runs significantly faster with only one terrain repeat, so I might look into it.

Most excellent!!! I'm sure MANY players would like it alot..... Especially for island builds....

Most likely though, a selectable option would suit best, IE enable/disable repeating terrain. Thay way, maps like "Flatlands" and "Green Hills" can be very fun, nomatter how far away from spawn you happen to be! But then again, maps without water can be scretched anyways...

I would very much enjoy if this modification was made to Blockland! :-D

What about just having no terrain after the map ends?
I have done that before, cant remember how though. ill check when i get back from school

I tryed to remove it on mine but I failed.   :panda:

Gmod has maps where, well , no terrain? you make a map, than there is a sky box, you go out of the skybox, it get's all weird and shiz.
(you can only go out of skybox if you use "unclip" basically like F8 for Blockland)
That's because Source is not the same as Torque. It's called "The Void" for a reason.

Ahem "interiors" or maybe its too hard... never tried

I wouldn't recommend using an interior in place of terrain.

Using interiors for islands on The TGE is... hard you could say, just takes a while to get the detail you want.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the terrain scale size? I'm looking through a map file right now to see if its obvious.

I'd like to create a map with a large scale that repeats less often.

EDIT: I guess I should have looked before I asked. No problem though, I can explain it here, and then people will know how to do it in the future.

Press F3 to open the World Editor Inspector. Select the terrain block. Head to the  category labeled Misc. Change the square size to a bigger number. Hit apply.

Don't use a non-even number. When I tried using an odd one, it crashed my game.

The smallest number you can use is 2. I wouldn't recommend it though, since the map repeats very often, and the player can easily get stuck in the tiny terrain features you can make.

I also wouldn't go any bigger the 32. Its ridiculously big, and the terrain detail texture starts to tile annoyingly. Plus, your mountains and valleys will start to look like triangles.

If you change the square size, it majorly smurfs up your water, so don't try it if you want to have water on your map. That would be a nice thing to have fixed. :)

Maps for any Source game are made with Hammer. To make a map, you use brushes as the terrain, sky, water, ect. Thereby, you are making one big interior in a void and thats it.

Its actually kind of nice not having to worry about leaks.
Although, if you have a bunch of leaks (unless they were intentional) you probably really screwed up somewhere.
