Game Informer News: Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim
At this years QuakeCon a gamer plays Skyrim demo. Also, I shortened the story a bit because it is pretty long, so here is the main points to it...
- Xbox controls are
X = Sheaths and unsheathes blade
B = Access to menu system
Y = Jump
A = Interact with objects
L3 = Activates Stealth Mode (Crouch)
- The combat evolved dramatically
- You can bash enemies with a shield, which causes a stagger for an open attack
- The main attack is accompanied by a cool animation
- When he attacked a wolf he lunged his sword straight through the wolfs body
- Stumble upon farmhouse and interact with the hen and cows, afterwards
- Character creation is amazing, it ranges from eyeliner to the different facial scars and colors on your face. In his case he was a Khajiit, so he customized the speckles on his nose, add earrings and even apply a little hairdo on top.
- He started his quest in a prison ( like any other elder scrolls game does, lol ) with shackles on his wrists.
- Interaction is pretty nice, as he talked to a farmer, she continued her farm business until the chat ended.
- He also jumped into a lake and swam, the animations were a little rough, but it was OK. He decided to grab a fish with his hands instead of using a fishing rod.
- He saw an elk as he made his way out, but he got a little to close, so the animal ran away.
- He got back to the path and he saw a group of Stormcloak soldiers carrying a prisoner, he was warned and he could make three decisions, free the prisoner, do nothing or free the prisoner and give him a weapon to help in the fight. In his case he did nothing and moved on.
- He then went North and encountered this huge plot of land and there were three humans on this land battling a massive giant. He could have helped them, but instead he watched. The giant was then defeated and was encountered by the three people. He was asked a question on why he didn't help. He had two choices whether to say I didn't want to or he tried. He picked the flattering answer. He also was asked on whether they want to join her group or not. He refused.
- he then wanted to get a horse towards Whiterun, he was confronted then with an outrageous fee of 1000 gold. He decided to steal the horse. He walked off with no guards on him.
- He then went towards the city and was confronted with a guard telling him that the city is closed due to dragon whereabouts. He decided to bribe the guard of 56 gold. Once he was in the loading was a bit long because it was a city.
-The loading screen gives you a little 3D object to tinker with on your wait, so boredom doesn't strike your heart.
- He went into a manor where life was eating and drinking.
- He decided to loot a ledger, but was caught by a guard, so he paid the fine of 44 gold.
- He then left the city and by then it was night. New creatures were seen such as torchbugs and luna moths.
- He came up to a farm and decided to loot the farmhouse.
Game Over:[/b ]By the time he opened the chest it was too late. He got a tap on the shoulder, then he knew he had to leave. All of his pleading lead to a simple shake of the head.
Overview: Over all Skyrim was great. The frame rate was fluid and everything was well organized.
