You scared the police are going to know that at least 1 person from your household watch regular research? Oh man, they care so much about that!
slippery slope etc
warrant and it's all good

right to privacy etc
also smart people use tor when they do illegal stuff so it's kind of a moot point
i'd have no problem with this if the information could only be accessed with a warrant, but that's not the case

The information is useless on its own because there is nothing to screen it. What it will be used for is when they find suspected child research traffickers and the like they can contact their ISP for evidence that will either clear the guy of charges or potentially land the sick forget in jail.

That's why monocle's upset about it, he can't save all the CP he finds on 4chan anymore because the FBI might find him.

do they need to obtain a warrant before acquiring this information?

do they need to obtain a warrant before acquiring this information?
i thought they had to do that before. i think now it's just making them able to be more nosy

do they need to obtain a warrant before acquiring this information?

Would it make any difference? If you're not doing anything illegal you would want them to get that information to clear your name.

A permit is required to view the information. As far as I know, the police have to go to your ISP provider's hosting building, show the warrant, and then use the logs to find incriminating evidence. People act like the government can now instantly see what you're doing. They can't.

They could call it something along the lines of evil or against the law whenever they like if they gain too much power.

You're nobody. You're no one important, nothing anybody reads in there they'll commit to memory. "This stuntman guy looks at pony research, but he's not doing anything illegal", none of it gets recorded, they'll just drop the case. You're innocent, in a day or two they'll completely forget you ever existed because they have real criminals to go after. Nobody will know or care about your special interestes or your online dealings as long as they're licit, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Because the government can call on this information when it's necessary doesn't mean your friends and family can do the same.

then i'm okay with this

once again, stop posting ponies outside of ponithread
except if they can obtain that info without a warrant, they can convince people to let them get other info without a warrant. plus joking around can potentially be interpreted as a thread. there was a guy who got arrested for making a joke about airport safety on twitter

Then don't make damn stupid jokes. As long as what you're doing isn't illegal, nobody will care.

there's also the matter of stuff that can be interpreted as illegal but isn't. for instance, i own a game on cd. i lose the cd. i download a nocd crack. that could be interpreted as illegal. my hard drive goes bust and i forgot to back it up. i torrent the game. that could be interpreted as illegal
