Is all this machinery hoopla necessary in the long run or can I stay a simple fortress?
Yeah, but that isn't much FUN.

But to turn a direction, I have to use gears, right?
I ended up needing 40 power on the Z level of my pumps because of all the axles/gears. I have to manuever them oddly to position it to the gear and pump.
Yeah, including moving up and down from a cardinal direction if that wasn't obvious already.

+ - keys to cycle through the available plants based on seeds.
But how do i select/choose one? ;_;

hit enter and it should become highlighted a brighter color.

Yup. I found that out.

Okay, I need to re-do this completely. I had too many twists and turns to do, so I'm going to try and place the windmills directly above the pumps so I just have to use vertical axles and a gear.

Yeah, I hate that. Most of my pump setups have me building more windmills to power the axles and gears rather than the pumps themselves.

Augh, stuff. I just remembered I have to power four pumps, not two. So I'll need more windmills now.
Maybe I'll use a waterwheel. I don't know.

I've seemingly lost my fortress. :/
I had it going really damn well too. Somehow when I went to load it, it loaded a fortress I built that was on the same map, but had abandoned. Whenever I go into that save it just loads that old abandoned fortress and never my new one. My new fortress was autosaved many times, along with being manually saved twice, I just can't access it. I may try and find it in adventure mode or something... see if it still actually exists.
Has anyone seen this problem before? I'm using the LazyNewbPack GUI, if that has anything to do with it.

Perhaps you have more than one Dwarf Fortress installation and you are using the wrong one.

Got a problem: All of the water sources have frozen over, which is bad. How do I break the ice so my dwarfs can drink?

You don't have any booze?

You're forgeted.

oh wow.
It was my doing apparently. I had a backup of my old fortress on my desktop, and the game was loading that rather then the real saves in the save folder. :|
I just renamed it and loaded the map and things are back to normal.
What the forget is DF doing looking for saves on my desktop.

Traders are coming, though. Maybe I could trade some cut gems for some hooch?

EDIT: Nevermind, I don't have an architect to make a trade depot. Looks like I'm quite forgeted, guess I should wait for my dwarves to starve to death D:

DOUBLEDIT: Engraver died of thirst.

... you can set one of your dorf's labors to architecture.

Augh, alright, I found out I'll need more power sources to power the lower layer of pumps. :I
