Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress Megathread! - Necro'd enough to count as a vampire  (Read 138410 times)

Are you loving serious?!
AUGH.
Yessssss I had a backup save right before I started loving around with a stuffload of stuff to attempt to power the waterfalls so I can try it again :D

Ogod I accidentally pissed off the elves by trying to sell them something in a wooden cage :/

Halp. Trying to brew some ale, yet my dwarves can't find an empty barrel. How do I reserve a barrel for alcohol and alcohol only?

Ah, this is one of the crazy reasons why I like Dwarf Fortress.

Make more barrels. :D

Make more barrels. :D

Oh, derp. I was like, "Drink that water, forgeters" and then I realized all the surrounding water was murky and awful. Anyway, got the drink crCIA solved. To whoever suggested Dwarf Therapist, thanks. That saved me from a ton of headaches.

EDIT: on the status screen, what's the unit of "drink"? does 1 drink unit mean one dwarf hydrated?

Jesus christ! I don't understand.
This is my current design:

  =>
_<=
     ~

~ = Water
<= / => = Screw Pumps
I have channeled out the areas like it says on the wiki page and then put a windmill over it like this:

  W
  =>
_<=
     ~

~ = Water
<= / => = Screw Pumps
W = Windmill.
The windmill doesn't power anything. Nothing at all. Not even the top stack.
When I put a gear assembly where the Windmill is and pop the windmill up a Z level it needs more power than the windmill gives off! forget!
Please somebody help me.

What does "Profile requires manager" exactly mean?

YESS! I GOT THE WATERFALL WORKING!
I had to use a vertical axle instead of a gear.
Edit: OKAY SGDSFGBE GOD DAMNIT GAME WHY ARE YOU SAYING IT NEEDS 21 POWER WHEN MY WINDMILL ONLY GIVES 20 ASDKJFSDLKFJN

Yes, that means one drink, for one dwarf to consume. The average dwarf drinks 4 times per season (12 times per year), so be sure to make lots of booze.

Oh forget I barely fought off a small elfin army and I suffered heavy losses, what are some good traps I can make to catch those forgeters? I want them alive.

FFfuuuuuucckk YES.
It's complete! I'm not a total moron!

1. make a whole lot of mechanisms and then a whole lot of wooden cages
2. press b > shift+t > c
3. place cage trap in desired area
4. press c again
5. repeat steps 3 and 4 until desired area is full of traps
6. dig out an area and make an animal stockpile
7. enjoy as your animal stockpile fills up with caged elves and goblins after every siege. they make excellent training dummies for your military

One of my men went berserk. I have a couple questions. How do I view why? How can I have my other dwarfs kill him?

Nevermind, my clerk took things into his own hands and jammed the berserk's skull through the brain, in turn tearing the brain.

And now everyone is going insane/berserk. Chaos is gripping my fortress :(

Dwarfs are running around babbling nonsense. I don't think I have a sane dwarf left.

lolmasons

edit:
I also found this moderately amusing. 3 thieves tried to get into my fort via the caverns, only to be caught in cage traps at nearly the exact same time.
