Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress Megathread! - Necro'd enough to count as a vampire  (Read 133899 times)

Well...It seems like every lord hates me, or at least all of the ones I have been to. I have amassed quite the army of undead though.
Probably because you killed lots of people. You can always duplicate your save folder, retire in the copy, and then use a legends viewer to find out where all of the dragons and dangerous creatures are hiding.

Legends viewer can be found here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=72702.0

Wow...I just realized why I was moving so slow...I had been carrying around the giant slab that taught me necromancy this whole time.

edit: Such an anticlimactic finish. I was swimming across a river and it froze. ahh...

Lol. That is why you never swim at dusk. And also why you make backups.

Wow...It's actually pretty hard to get powerful as just a normal human.

But if you don't turn into a vampire then you will be a much more powerful necromancer. Necromancers also do not need to eat, drink, or sleep, but as a necromancer you also do not need to feed on blood, unlike a vampire. So if you can manage to become super powerful and take the necromancer by surprise (possibly by using your sneak skill), then you will be the ultra champion.

EDIT: It may also help to become a dwarf because they have a chance to enter a martial trance, which boosts combat abilities, during intense battles. Or you could become an elf because they have higher agility, which might help you dodge those arrows that might paralyze you from the waist down.

EDIT EDIT: I just got a group of 9 necromancers to join me. Unfortunately, their leader won't give me a legendary quest until I prove myself more.

Triple Edit: I got ambushed and a stray shot hit me in my lower spine. I can no longer stand. I am now really slow. That's the thing about dwarf fortress, even if you are a legend you can still be killed by a peasant.
2x Crutch time?

So are you gonna turn into a necromancer or are you one already?

I am already. Unfortunately they suck at combat and all died in the first battle. Also, I haven't found a crutch yet. I'll have to figure out what sort of shop they are in and then steal one.

Apparently this topic has become Flush and Doomonkey talk about Dwarf Fortress :P

Wow...Being lost in the sewers sucks...

Wow...Being lost in the sewers sucks...
Indeed. And I have never ventured into the sewers.

Also, on the note of my adventure. I always seem to judge distances wrong. I thought I could make it across an ocean in less than a day, I couldn't. I decided to just be done with that save file and ended it. I also decided that because I had killed a lot of the legendary beasts on that world I would trash that too.

I created a new world and began an adventure as an elf swordswoman. I started out with no food or drink and a wooden sword that bounced off of crappy leather armor. Needless to say, I died.

Wow, I didn't know that you could start without food or water...

I didn't know you could either. I'm not sure how that happened at all. Usually you start with 3 water and 5 food. I am certain I didn't drop it.

First quest on a new world...to kill a vampire with 3,500 kills...haa...I think I'll wait a bit on that one...

To kill anything you:
1) Get iron armor
2) Swim alot.
3) Knap a stuff-ton of stones and pick up everything you find.
4) Train up thrower to the max
5) Throw everything. Everything.

I read something like that. A legendary thrower throws a bunny at a colosus and knocks his head off.

In a lot of the worlds the ocean freezes at night, making swimming difficult. In the current version of dwarf fortress you need steady food and drink, which basically requires combat. Training thrower takes forever. Being a thrower from the start means that you won't get in much melee combat, which means you will only trains your shield, armor, and dodging skill from ranged attacks. It just so happens that ranged attacks are the most evil attacks and you really want to train your defensive skills quickly.

EDIT: But after you are already proficient at combat, throwing rocks.
