The different types of items are confusing me...
Do different types of swords do more damage? Like is a silver sword better than an iron sword? I looked on the wiki but it didn't really have anything about damage.
http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Weapon

This portion of the wiki goes over the weapon types, what the attacks are, what superior crafting results in, what effect the material has on that, and what material of weapons are best against what material of armor for certain types of attack. There is a similar section on armor. The pages are for Fortress mode, but the stats are the same.

Different sort of attacks can be used for different things. For example, if you find your sword slashes are being deflected by armor, you may wish to use a stab. However, if you want to experience the joy of cutting someone in half at the upper or lower body, a slash will do much better, and a slash from an axe is the best. I generally choose swordsman, as they have two edge and two blunt attacks that can be used for different situations, so I can be prepared for any situation. However, if you make it far enough, you might switch to an axe for slashing, a spear for stabbing, and a hammer for bashing.

It's been a long time since I've played this, but Gnomoria made me want to play it again.
Quick question, how do you set orders for workshops now?

Do you have a manager? If you do just press j -> m -> q

So if I'm understanding this right...I should not be using a silver sword...

Okay time for my first real test. After vanquishing all evil from the region I was in, I swam across an ocean to a new continent. A lord there wants me to kill a swamp titan...

Silver makes for a crappy sword.

Titans are usually easy.

I found a masterful bronze shortsword so I switched them.

I actually hadn't looked at the weapons page in a long time, and the realization that weapons with their own name are much less likely to be deflected makes me want to search the legends for these weapons and then find some. It could be cool to have all of your weapons and armor to have their own name, it would also be very confusing. Okay, which one was the axe, TulipFairy or GlitterSparkles?

Holy megabump, Batman!
I was wondering if you guys would like to start a succession game, I stumbled across the story of Boatmurdered today and it inspired me, I think it'd be interesting to see how a succession game with these forums would go. We'd use similar rules, like Spring-Spring = 1 turn, everybody gets their turn, one week to play out your turn, and don't (intentionally) kill the fortress.
How many of you guys would be interested?

Im up for it
I suck stuff but I can play the game well enough

Skill level doesn't matter as long as you know how to play enough to take your turn!

The point of succession games is to have fun. You can't win Dwarf Fortress, the only way to have fun is to lose. Hence-

LOSING IS FUN.

we will inevitably lose with lots of FUN, just not intentionally

loving MULTIPLAYER DWARF FORTRESS.

Id give my left testicle for multiplayer dwarf fortress

started a few fortress, everything going well except that i now have 200 dwarfs and still can't find anything other than loving galena

still only have 5 miners, can't smith picks

Is there a way to play this using stonesense or some other program all the time? So it's basically an isometric game?
Or is that how stonesense is in the first place? I don't really get it.
