Wait, what do they mean by 'The offical release of Minecraft"? Like the source code?

Well since Minecraft is still in beta the offical release is when they're going to consider the game complete but keep updating it anyway. I don't really get it either, I guess they're just going to make it look more professional.

1.8 is just going to be a big update pre-official release.

Anyway, if hosting it in Vegas wasn't a stupid idea, $99 admission sure as hell is. MineCon 2011 is a huuuge disappointment.

Yeah, $99 seems pretty excessive, and if I'm going to pay that much, it better be worth it.

No, the official release will be an even bigger update that will include all the game's biggest elements and from there it will be tweaking and fixing updates.

They're also planning on releasing some DLC for Minecraft post-release which I think is pretty cool, especially since I'm an alpha-buyer. :D

As I said in the Minecraft topic regarding this,

Minecraft gets way more attention than it's worth. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but it does not deserve all the publicity it is getting.

It's a competitor to some of the best selling xbox games like Black Ops and Halo.
Plus just buying the game became a frenzy. If your friends had it, you would just buy it. That's why it has so many sales, people want to check out the full game.
