Author Topic: Swholli's Let's Play Half-Life  (Read 3617 times)

Yes yes, I'll say it right now: this is not a new, not even novel, concept. However it was done with different intentions than most.

Firstly, perhaps you remember that me and my friend Dylan started a gaming channel on Youtube called The Suave Zouaves. Now on it we review classic games from our childhood in a positive light (so yeah, we're not AVGN). I had for some time toyed around with the idea of doing Half-Life, but the more I pondered the more I realized that there would just be too much to cover in a ten minute video. So, I had a clever idea, do a critical-style let's play of the game for ample reasons:

One, it'll show you my thoughts on the game in real time.

Two, it'll show the game in its whole, which is far more than just clips (which does it justice).

And three, if you haven't played the game before (yes, there are people out there who haven't) then I'd be glad knowing your first experience of the game came from me (assuming you either couldn't or wouldn't have time to play it yourself). I for one enjoy let's plays even of games that have been let's played a hundred times. Each person usually brings at least one or two new things to the game, or at the very least adds a different personality to it all.

So, with that all being said, I'd like to let you guys know of its existence, open up discussion of the let's play itself, as well as allow you to request perhaps a lesser known game to have me let's play (for walkthrough purposes or what have you). Any comments are welcome, and yes, I plan on updating this every chance I get until it's done. I have four episodes on my harddrive and two on the internet. I can make them faster than I can upload, so expect a full thing in a couple of weeks or so (assuming college, which starts this Monday for me, doesn't get in the way).

Currently watching episode 1, your video sounds kind of low, i usually have the volume on 15 and things are normal volume for my headphones, but for your video, i have to put it all the way to 100

Yeah, I really don't know what happened to my audio.

My theory is that because it was 1 in the morning when I started, I was being very quiet and the mic was far from my face. It sounds ok on my end, but, I dunno. Hopefully I've fixed it later. At about episode 4 it should sound better.

I recently beat hl1 though I originally couldn't back in my childhood (never got past jumping from swinging crate to swinging crate)

Good intro, good voice-over quality (I don't shatter glass putting it next to my speakers from your voice), and the gameplay quality is a bit livelier than most. Good job!

My play style is quick. That sometimes is a problem in some games, but for some reason it works in this one.

you should turn the game volume down and rise your own voice, i cant understand that gibberish!

I promise you, later episodes are easier to hear, and for the most part I murmured through some of these episodes, I apologize.

Anyway, I can't turn my mic up. There is no boost available for a USB mic (without third party software that is, which if anyone knows of, I'd be glad to try it) and if I turned down the game volume you wouldn't be able to hear what's being said in game as well.

Anyway, I have seven episodes rendered, I'll upload episode three when I start feeling like going to bed. If it gets done and I'm not asleep, I'll do four too.

Well please, I hope you advance through it faster than Freeman's Mind does.

When was the last time Freeman's mind updated anyway? That stuff was hilarious but it took forever for new episodes to come out.

somewhere near the forties i believe

It's on 37 ATM. My friend Sean said that he raged the many times he skipped parts that could've freaking taken him straight to the Nihilanth in a skip.
