Aplem is a fat douche

I always saw nerds that wanted to be game designers as stupid and delusional as jocks that want to be professional athletes.

Even though the chances of becoming a professional athlete are a lot better.

i wish life were that easy. to just be an "idea" man. who spouts ideas and gets paid for it.
unfortunately its not efficient to pay someone for that, as anyone who is skilled and can perform the labor as well; could just as well have ideas themselves.

I'd love to be a developer.
Although, I know that is nearly impossible since I only know a bit about Torque and BYOND.
If anything I'll try to get a decent job with good pay and learn code on my off time, and perhaps make a tiny game.

I remember when I was a little kid and basically posted on dev fourms as an "idea man".
Now I have a very good knowledge of C++ and a good deal of other programming languages (lua, c# (torquescript mostly), basic, php), have created many programs, can model somewhat, have played and understood many differnet genres of games, and have read about/seen many game projects fail and succeed. And I'm still worried about sounding like an "idea man" type of person.

I remember I was reading the job openings on Blizzard's website and one of the openings was for a "lead project designer", which is basically like the foreman for a video-game sweatshop and one of the requirements was like 8 years of experience on a team and 3 professionally published titles to your name.

That's Blizzard though, they expect top notch and pay for top notch. Other smaller company's go for 1-2 years of experience with one title, you can get into these positions without the requirements so long as you're capable.

Name 2 companies that people actually care about that would take a total rookie on their team.

Only real concept people that can actually assist in a game project are concept artists. Mostly just to guide modelers because I find it really loving hard to make something without some reference. Which is why Google Image is my best friend.
