Okay, seriously. I know people aren't familiar with this sort of thing, but DUCT TAPE on your window will not stop it from breaking. The same goes for FLIPPING YOUR FURNITURE won't stop it from flying away.

Put plywood over your windows. Bring all furniture that is light enough for you to carry inside. If that furniture gets picked up by the wind, it can fly through your window and hit you, or at the very least break the window and let rain in.

Don't neglect the news, watch it closely. Something can change in an instant with conditions like this.

I more worried about the threat of isolated tornadoes than the hurricane itself.

I can't find any information on it, but do you mean like mini hurricanes that form around the main and spin around it?

It's possible, but not likely. The wind needs to be a higher speed to spawn tornadoes.

EDIT: Tornadoes reported in Virgina Beach and Columbia, VA approx. 9:40 AM EST.

Where are you?

New Jersey is suspected to be hit sometime Sunday morning
by that time the hurricane will be a category 1 or 2, and of course the eastern half of new jersey will get it worse than the western
in short: it won't do any major damage if you live in western new jersey(implying it will be category 1 and you live far out west or mid far)

Black spot

Monday or Tuesday. It won't be as bad up there as it will be in NY.

MA is also supposed to be hit around Saturday night

The areas close to the eye will move into MA tomorrow afternoon. The rain from the outer arms will start this afternoon.
