Why wouldn't we keep records of what happened? Our country is based purely on science. It was formed by scientists.

Because for the sake of the RP you're supposed to play fair. You don't have the resources or the knowledge to build a nuclear weapon or a space fleet on your first few years here. I waited at least 10 years before starting a weapons program and that was when I had industry and means of getting resources established.
