"Like putty in my hands..." I thought. I suddenly burst out and hugged her. "Thank you..." I said happily. I walked to my room, shut the door, and set my brass knuckles under my mattress. "This is going to be so easy... Get some new stuff for drugs, some money... Wait, I'm done holding up the drug market, they can handle it on their own!" I thought. "Wait a minute... The cops or the gang might spot me... this is bad... But it isn't my place!" I thought with a smile.
MEANWHILE
"What?! What do you mean he's gone?!" the boss asked. "We searched everywhere, he's gone!" a Salamander (Gang member herp) said. "The drug market is going to fall within days... We need him found, and if the drug market falls because of him, he's an outsider, and we have nothing to do with him!" the boss explained. "Yes sir..." another Salamander said.

I looked at him in surprise for a moment before he went upstairs. I sighed, shaking my head slightly. "You're welcome..." I muttered, walking to the furnace room to keep the coals hot.

I walked around the city, looking for something to do. The next train pulled in with a loud screech. I prayed it wasn't anything bad. I kept a tight grip on my revolver, looking out of the corner of my eye at who was coming. I gasped as I saw who it was. The Salamanders. "Oh damn." I breathed. I quickened my pace, trying not to make eye contact. I tried to reason why they would come to heartland. I slowly peiced it together.
-I kidnapped the kid. Shot him.
-The kid goes to hospital.
-He must have some acting skills, he begs for shelter.
-He disappers from the Salamander's sight.
-They look for him.
"Oh damnit." I said under my breath. I quickly turned a corner, I had to find that kid. If they found him before I did, who knows what might happen to who's housing him.

I suddenly got uneasy. "Did I hear what I thought I heard?" I thought to myself. I headed downstairs, to see some Salamanders outside the shop. "HNNNG!" I muttered as I stumbled to a stop down the stairs. I dashed back up, and peeked down to see them enter the shop. "You think he's here?" one of them said. "That's what the inn said" the other one said. "Anybody here?" one of them called as I dashed to my room. "This is bad... Very... Bad..." I said through chattering teeth.

I looked outside of the shop to see a group of people outside of the shop. "Hi, can I help you?" I asked kindly, opening the front door slightly.

The salamanders entered. "You see a dirty kid, about 13 in this area?" one of them said. The other whispered into his ear. "We're his parents..." he said as he looked back at the other man. "He's adopted" He said with a smile. I looked down the stairs again, and the Salamanders saw me. "THERE YOU ARE!" One of them said, whipping out a gun. "YOU HAVE A LOT TO EXPLAIN BUDDY!" The other shouted. I ran back to my room.

I ran around a corner, seeing a glass shop, and Salamanders. I snuck behind a wall of an alley, went around, and squeezed through a tight corner. I was behind the shop, revolver drawn. I went around the shop, the Salamanders had their backs turned. I hit one on the back of the head, shooting the other with a quick shot to the leg. I quickly ran into the house. "C'mon." I said to the girl and the kid, "We gotta get the hell outta here. None of us are safe here, there are bound to be more." As I said these words, I heard car doors slamming. I slammed the door, waiting for a response.

It's about a half hour ride from Mulholland square back into Teal Harbor, and it wouldn't be so long if there weren't so many stops. After being searched down by the police before getting off of the train, who were searching for the mayor's assassin, I started to walk swiftly down the street, heading to my apartment. My footsteps echoed down the lonely alleyway, my apartment was through the third door to the right and directly at the top of the stairs, apartment 3C. I hadn't made it to the door yet when I heard a man yealling, "Hey! You! Wait!" I wheeled around before touching the knob, and I reached for my kni- Where is my knife? I started fumbling for my key, and the man started running towards me. "Stay away!" I shouted, and dropped the keys on the damp concrete floor. I raised my fists, expecting a fight, when the man took out a knife, and handed it to me. Instantly realizing the engravings and serrated edges, I said, "Hey, thanks!" He smiled and responded, "Couldn't leave a man without his knife, now could I? Anyways, the name's Grant. I live a few blocks down, over near the manufacturing district. Just come call on me if you need anything." he said, and dissapeared quickly. "Hey, thanks!" I shouted again, but I didn't know he could hear me. "Nice guy." I muttered to myself, and searched for my keys in the puddle they fell in.

I followed the stranger, thankful that he had come in time. I dragged the kid along with me to make sure he followed.

I took them to the abandoned building that was my temporary home. "Sorry it isn't much, but I haven't alot of things to work with." I apologized. I sat on one of the scattered crates, pulling another across from me so she could sit. "My name's Alex Aroth. You?" I said, holding out a hand.

I noticed her wariness, but said nothing on the matter. "It's nice to meet you. Are you armed? Anything will do, but a firearm would be best."

Got a few minutes.

"WAIT A MINUTE! I'm not going anywhere near this man, he shot me, well a lot of people shot me... but this guy put me in the hospital!" I said as I backed away. "I'd rather take my chances with th-" I heard an SMG burst and a scream. "On second thought I'll stay here, the name's Max Nappy, I make drugs for a living, well I did at least, and the Salamanders are hunting me down because I'm holding the drug market up for them, and since I'm no longer in that game, they're out to get me!" I explained. "Also, my only weapon was my brass knuckles, but they're under a mattress..." I said while blushing.

I looked at the kid, then stood up and opened the crate I was sitting on. I reached inside, pulled out a knife, and threw it at Max, saying, "Catch."
