Hey folks. I came to realize that we need a way to boost relevant conversation within the clan. We also have been getting a lot of requests recently for help with constructing apps. I decided to pick two flowers with one hand and create Tips on Ships, where every Wednesday I will post a new tip for ship construction as long as there are tips to post. So, without further delay,
Ship Tip #01- Cover Your Exits
No ship, no matter how large or strong, is immune to danger. It's important to keep in mind that during an emergency situation, unwelcome obstructions (fire, debris, flooding, intruders, etc.) may block your exit from a room. For this reason it's important to keep your exits in mind. Ideally, all primary rooms (living rooms, dining spaces, galleries, etc.) should have at least two access points.
There are three types of accesses to rooms. Primary accesses are usually very apparent and considered to be the main entrance. Examples could include large double doors or ornate archways. Secondary accesses are usually less obvious but still easily used. Examples could include emergency exit doors or side doors into other rooms that have alternate exits. Tertiary accesses are usually less obvious and should only be used in emergencies. Examples could include covered crawl spaces or emergency windows.
Primary rooms should have at least two exits. A simple two-exit combination would be one primary and one secondary. However, a room could also have a primary and a tertiary or two primaries. A room could also have three exits using simply a primary, secondary, and tertiary, two primaries and a secondary, a primary and two secondaries, or three primaries. Two tertiaries tend to be unnecessarily redundant. It is advised that rooms have no more than three access points, as it tends to clutter up a room and/or make security an issue as the room can't be quickly locked down.
However, it is important to remember that some areas--staterooms or restrooms, for example--should only have one entrance for security reasons. It is up to you to determine how many access points your rooms should have; hopefully this Ship Tip will help make the process a little easier!
