Author Topic: im tired of this music!  (Read 5350 times)

i don't know how it would work. i was talking about people not being allowed to, and if they do, they will get banned. don't you get tired of downloading music you already have?
You can't ban anyone except from your own server. Banning them from the game is most likely going to involve some lawyers.

sometimes, i already have some music a server does, but someone changes the title of alot of the songs. so the program thinks it's different songs. so it downloads those songs alover again! i think there should be a rule that makes it where people can't change the title of songs.

p.s. can someone please move this to suggestions? i would do so, but im too lazy and don't feel like retyping all of this.
If you listen closely, you can tell there is ussually a difference between the two songs, like more background music or bass, or whatever.

i dont dl anyones music at all. they ALL suck.

i only like: ambient sounds / background noise files

dont you get tired of hearing that crappy song in mono loop over and over?
ref to: any in the dl section

who's up for coding an MD5 checker though... >_>
C'mon, that's a noobish answer, there are enough commandline based tools for that that could be used in BLR (Torque) without any problems.

And if that's to complex, there are even more CRC commandline tools that could also be used.

And maybe there are even MD5 or CRC tools already ported in Torque.

I suggest a MD5 (trimmed to 8 chars) based system for music files.

Example: You put in a "Pacman On Crack.ogg" and it get's renamed to "936bc8e5.ogg" and the original Filename as a Tag inside the ogg file or as "936bc8e5.txt".

This way you won't load files over and over again, because they have the same filename on all servers cause of the checksum. The title information won't be lost either cause of the txt file or the tag.
I like this idea.

If you don't like downloading the same music repeatidly, turn music downloading off, and quit your whinging.
I like this idea better.

You are just not thinking effective, that like you don't like something on your plate and throw away the plate... that's just not rational thinking.

Problem:
People rename the songs like they want.
Songs are downloaded again and again if they have different file names.

Result:
The same song, the same filesize, a different filename, again and again :D

Solution:
Checksum based filenames, automatically done by torque, backuping the original filenames and let the serveradmins set labels for the songs.
Tadaa... no song will be downloaded again when it's the same.
You can still see what song is what song, cause of the labels.

Best would be this structure:
CHECKSUM_LABEL.ogg

The file will only be checked on the CHECKSUM, the Label won't be changed on the client....I will prepare some examples....
