It's pretty random.

You really have to get used to fighting in the game, being quick and reacting fast.
I know the first few times I started Daggerfall that I died.

I like the way how stamina plays a bigger role in this game. It is really hard, even if i save every 5 seconds i keep seeing the death cutscene over and OVER again.

I never found daggerfall that difficult

All I did was just put all my stuff into combat and health regeneration. It's not that I had difficulty dying, it's that I couldn't die...

Install the right direct x redist?

Other than that your hardware might not be supported. What are your specs?
