I prefer to not take sides in the war nowadays. It seems pointless to me.
I don't like the stuffty shallow characters that replace the Jarls and I can't really claim to morally support nor oppose either faction.

I'll stick with being a humble adventurer who travels from dungeon to dungeon, town to town, seeing whatever there is to be seen.

No. They question you when you ask to join ("Why's an Elf want to fight for the Stormcloaks?", etc.) but they don't deny you.
They don't even question you if you ask to join the Legion. They see past petty racial stereotypes. Long live the Empire.
