I've been playing the ESO beta this weekend.

I'm quite enjoying it, but it lacks a few things that I've come to appreciate in MMOs.
The main thing just being how many players there are around you at all times.
Some people might like that, but I find it really annoying when there's fifteen people all on the same quest all gathering around chatting to the same NPC or trying to do the same thing.

I much prefer the style of say, Star Wars The Old Republic, where quest areas get locked off to individuals/groups, so once you enter, only yourself and your group are with you and you aren't plagued by other people getting in the way.

I don't think I'd mind it too much if at the very least it wasn't possible for every player around to fight the same enemy as you currently are. Takes away the challenge and interesting battle you and a group can have, if everyone is just shooting at it.
And because of that, respawn rates are crazily high. Kill an enemy, stop to check your inventory, turn around, and the enemy is back again.

I'm quite offput by paying for the game as a whole and then paying on top of that as a subscription.
I feel kind of cheated to buy a product and then have to pay more constantly to continue playing.

I much prefer the one-time payment or (possibly controversially) the F2P with Optional Subscription model.
Or even just a subscription without a large initial purchase.

But, I am enjoying the game so far and I have some money saved up from my job and also money from Christmas, so I might just buy it when it releases.

runescape in a nutshell

Wait can you only play as an Imperial by buying that? For £70?

ESO is officially pay to win.

looks like the imperial gear is purely aesthetic

the EXP bonus is egh though, and the imperial race bonuses aren't obvious from that

you can play as an imperial additionally i guess

Play as an Imperial: Become an Imperial and play in any Alliance. Gain unique bonuses, crafting styles, gear, and more.

It looks like you can only play an imperial if you get that.

in the context of listing features it would mean you get X extra content for this version

i seriously doubt they would make that dumb of a design choice

Has anyone else recieved further invite to beta-test this weekend?

Also, has anyone pre-ordered ESO yet?
I purchased the standard pre-order from GreenManGaming during their 25% discount. (Also, thank you very much to Yndaaa~ who offered me their 20% code. It was account-linked so I couldn't use it, but it was very nice to be offered).

For the moment I think that's the only way to be an Imperial.
But I'm pretty sure that they'll have premium-purchases you can make to unlock those sort of features.

The Explorer's Pack looks like it'll be purchasable seperately from the pre-order, otherwise they wouldn't describe it as a "pack". And considering it gives you the ability to play any race on any faction, I'm sure it will sell a lot. So chances are other things will be available to purchase additionally.
And I'm pretty sure Imperial Class and/or items will be available for purchase too, whether in bulk or as individual items.

well, that's how it was with the Fallout NV preorder bonuses. and this is the same company we're talking about

Every time I start to consider actually purchasing ESO, I see something that reminds me of why I haven't already. I really wanted it to be something cool but I'm already at a disadvantage since I don't like MMOs very much.

I have no doubt the current bonuses will become available for purchase. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. (although I do think some things, like all races for all factions, should have been a default thing).

But yeah, there's already a precedent among Bethesda/Zenimax for these sorts of preorder-turned-purchase.
Plus, this is an MMO, where it's pretty much a market standard that there will be some form of market for premium purchase additional content.

What I would be most curious about is what those additional contents might be.
Other than the obvious Imperial access and the Explorer's Pack, I'm not sure what else they might add, whether they're premium vanity items or any actual DLC Add-Ons.

So I'm playing the beta this weekend, and I'm quite impressed.

I'm a nord, so when I spawned on the coast of Skyrim, I felt a wave of nostalgia. The environments were very nice and looked familiar.

The combat was pretty fun, but could possibly be improved to make it more fun to play.

Overall, I'm having a lot of fun, and I can't wait to play the full version when it comes out.

I'm playing Dark Elf at the moment so I started in the same location.
It's certainly a fun and pretty game (although I wish I had a better computer to accomodate more of it).

Shame though that there are still quite a few bugs in the game that were problematic on the past beta test.
But I think they'll get the game to a good standard by the launch date.
I just hope they invest in some better servers. The whole point of this Beta is to stress-test, and so far they're kind of overwhelmed.

Why won't it save my damn billing adress? I put in the code but it wont save it.
