One question: My computer likes saving applications to Program Files (x86), will that make any difference?

Not in the slightest, you won't need to worry about it.

It's just not something you would see usually in a game.

Game related folders currently in my "My Documents" folder:

ArmA 2
Battlefield 3 Open Beta
DeadIsland
DFO
DragonNest
Duke Nukem Forever Demo
Eidos
EVE
PCSX2
SoldnerSecretWars
VVVVVV

minecraft, to continue our dumb comparisons to it, also tends to dump itself into the user's Application Data folder.

also, regarding how you will use this fabulous new system, do you have any particular ideas yet regarding new content or whatnot to be distributed with this, or is it just setting the foundation for some yet unknown glory?

Settlers 6 does too, as well as some The Sims games, but VVVVVV doesn't, it saves to the flash cookie store.

I was just stating that live server updating just wasn't going to happen in a viable way considering how it works right now.

Wait what. The game is now located in My Documents folder? That sucks. You better be able to change that.

If you want the app to autoupdate you have to put it there (or one of a few other places under the user directory). If you don't then permissions don't work, and for some people the app won't update properly and they can't view servers with mods.

You can always copy stuff around manually and maybe that is great for Blockland Power Users but we want it so people without a PhD in Blocklandology will have a good experience.

I'd prefer that it's in the My Documents/My Games folder or in the appdata folder, then it doesn't clutter up the Documents folder.

I'd much rather just keep it in My Documents, it will seem out of place, but I'm too lazy to have to copy everything back and forth when there is an update. :P

That makes it sound like us old members are even less important than we are now. :panda:

Alright, so after an update I can just make a copy of the Blockland folder somewhere else and ignore the launcher? On another note, would it be possible to get a command-line switch for what folder it should update to?

At least we got a PhD in Blocklandology.

So it will be possible to move the folder from My Documents to some other folder?
Cause as stupid as it sounds; my C drive is filled to the brim, and i really need to install BL on another drive.

I have never heard of a game being in the My Documents folder. Minecraft and some other java games are in appdata but Documents. What. I like my games on a separate drive.

Like kompressor said, you can just copy the files to wherever you want them. Just like you can now. The only difference is that the launcher is supposed to make downloading and installing updates simpler and quicker. After you install an update, you can just move the files to wherever you want.

Oh no old people are being marginalized and everything is ruined why do we live in a world of poop.

Seriously, come on - obviously the community is made up of long time players and we value you a lot and listen to what you say and want to keep you. But we are not going to make every decision just to cater to people who have used blockland since launch. That is a good way to end up with zero new people playing the game and a decreasing number of "old school" players. Pretty soon no one is playing the game at all.

Instead it is better to make sure you encourage new people and make it easy for them. At the same time you make sure you keep more experienced players able to write mods, run custom servers, and so on. And you absolutely can do that with this system.

And because updates are easy, it means that if Badspot has a small feature he wants to add, or a bug fix he wants to do, he can do it in a few days instead of having to do a major release. So everyone gets more and better Blockland all the time.

If you don't have 100mb free for Blockland maybe you should spend $11 on a new hard drive: http://bit.ly/rlIBzT

Also, I was wrong, you do have to run the game from the launcher.
