The Dragon Age Series is set in the realm of Thedas. The world has a rich history of conquest and magic. The name Dragon Age is in reference to the return of the dragons to the world. They had previously been believed to be extinct, largely by Nevarran dragon hunters. The main evil force throughout the series are the Darkspawn, as well as there Archdemon overlords. Long ago, during the reign of the Tevinter Imperium the most powerful tevinter magisters travelled deep into the heart of the fade (the realm of dreams, magic, and demons). The heart of the fade once held the golden city, seat of the maker (the humans' god figure), when the magisters attempted to usurp the city it blackened. Their bodies became twisted and they were cast back to the world as the first Darkspawn.
When the darkspawn find an Archdemon (old gods corrupted by the darkspawn in the form of dragons) a blight begins. The archdemon leads a horde of darkspawn to the surface to pillage and defile the land.
This is where the Grey Wardens come in. Men and women from every race and class that have made a vow to protect the world from darkspawn. The Grey Wardens are not only bound to the darkspawn by vow, they also are bound by blood. Grey Wardens drink the blood of their enemy to gain there strength. It allows them to defeat archdemons and sense the darkspawn. Sadly, darkspawn blood is poison and many do not survive the Joining (ritual in which the blood is drank). Those who do survive will have shortened lifespans.
At the start of the Dragon Age there has not been a blight for 400 years, so the Grey Wardens are few and, in many places, hated.

Official Description
You are a Grey Warden, one of the last of a legendary order of guardians. With the return of an ancient foe and the kingdom engulfed in civil war, you have been chosen by fate to unite the shattered lands and slay an archdemon once and for all. Start your adventure by picking your race as a Human, Elf, or Dwarf, then your class as a Warrior, Mage, or Rogue. Then after that, it is all up to you. The choices you make guide the path you take through the Ninth Age: The Dragon Age. That is the story line for the first Dragon Age.
Plot
The player character—"the Warden"— is a new grey warden recruit within Ferelden, and begins his/her journey to halt the inevitable blight as one of the six origin stories. The origin chosen determines who the Warden is prior to the main events of the game's story. By the same measure, it also affects how NPCs (party and non-party) will react to the Warden. Elves, for example, are often viewed as second-class citizens. The last warden will be given the task of building an army to match the blight and gather companions along the way to support him/her on this onerous task. As the last grey warden within Ferelden, the actions taken, both indirectly and directly, will decide over the course of one year, which factions align with the warden to build this army and halt the blight, as well as the fate of those met on your journey.

Overview
The events of Awakening begin six months after the conclusion of Dragon Age: Origins. The player takes on the role of a Grey Warden commander, who is either an imported character from Origins or a new Warden from Orlais. The Orlesian Warden is treated differently because of the history between Orlais and Ferelden—and because an imported Warden will be renowned to begin with, having killed an archdemon almost single-handedly in Origins.
While rebuilding the Grey Wardens and establishing Vigil's Keep, a fortress given to the Grey Wardens at the end of Origins, as a new base of operations, the Warden is faced with a new challenge. It is revealed that despite the defeat of the archdemon, the darkspawn have not returned underground and a new variety of sapient, speaking darkspawn have been discovered. Two entities, named The Architect and The Mother, appear to be involved and the Warden may have to deal with them. Once this mission is complete, the world will have changed dramatically.

Plot
Spanning over a decade, Dragon Age II determines Hawke's actions in the political chaos of Kirkwall, their rise to power. Hawke escapes Lothering under the threat of the Blight with his/ her family to the Free Marches and eventually becomes an important character in Thedas as the Champion of Kirkwall. Hawke is involved in a course of actions that will change the world forever. Cassandra Pentaghast, a Seeker of the Chantry, is interrogating Hawke's dwarven friend Varric Tethras in hope of finding the Champion whose aid Cassandra is searching for in her quest to reverse the change. Varric tells Cassandra Hawke's whole story as he is unaware of Hawke's current location.
In Dragon Age 2 you are able to import your Origins save, similar to the Mass Effect series, and it will scan the save for key plot events, which will effect some of the plot elements in the game. But you do not play the same character.

Dragon Age Journeys

Dragon Age Journeys is a 2-D flash game set in the Dragon Age universe. It is a single player game, told in three chapters. Ethan Levy, a producer with EA 2-D, describes it as a "tactical RPG"[1]. It features classes, spells, talents, sound effects and music taken directly from Dragon Age: Origins.

Dragon Age Legends is a flash based Facebook and Google+ game set in the Dragon Age universe. It is the successor to Dragon Age Journeys and is the tie-in to Dragon Age II. The story follows the protagonist, a trusted ally of Ravi, the current Viscount of Kaiten, as he sets out to discover the mysterious set of circumstances around Ravi's son, Eiton.

The Dragon Age pen and paper RPG is authored by Chris Pramas and was released by publisher Green Ronin in 2010. The game is recommended for 4-6 players and rated age 14+ (Dark Fantasy).
In this game players can take on the personas of warriors, mages, and rogues in the world of Thedas and try to make their names by overcoming sinister foes and deadly challenges. They may face down the vile darkspawn in ancient dwarven ruins, engage in a duel of wits with an Orlesian noble, or even uncover the secrets of the Fade.

Needs more Dinosaurs
Pretty good games yo

I've personally logged in almost 400 hours in origins, and probably over 100 in DA2.

Origins is up there in my top 3 favorite games.
I didn't like DA2 as much, but it was still fun. I really hope that they lean more on the origins side for DA3. In my opinion, if they had kept everything about the game the same when they made 2, but changed the setting and things like this it would have been a way better game.

They did make blood magic really fun to use in DA2 though, whereas in origins it was pretty useless.

so, I'm curious why these games don't have a large fanbase on these forums?
are people turned off by the name? I know I was at first, as I thought it would be some kind of stuffty anime crap, but then when I actually looked at it I realized it wasn't at all.

I would think it would be very popular, considering it is a Bioware game, and tons of people like bioware stuff.

I deeply, deeply enjoyed Origins. Only one problem: The goddamn Broodmother.
I reach her, it's the last hoorah. I can't beat her.

Make sure to use the tower power things you unlock on the way.
And if you sided with the architect you get some other power.

DA:O> Dog stuff > DA2
I wouldn't say DA2 was that bad.
It was much worse than DA:O
but not that bad.

DA:O ultimate is 23.5gb, I can't think of a larger game.

That's odd.
I'm pretty sure I bought the ultimate one, but I never got all of the content packs :(
I have warden's keep and stone prisoner but not the other ones. THey must have come out afterwards.
