Author Topic: Why do young gamers never explore?  (Read 2535 times)

This thread is about my brother, as hes the one who got the question in my mind.

Earlier he was in my room and decided to pick up Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I had no idea. But when I finally went back in my room, I found that he had progressed way farther in the story than I had and was empty on ammo.

I went up to him and said, "Damn. How did you get to China so fast? It took me like... 7 hours."
"Seven hours? God, you're slow. Anyways, I have a question, why is this game so hard? I havent found a single piece of ammo for like 30 minutes, and the game doesnt have anywhere you can buy some."
"Um, yes it does. You just have to look for the ammo, and then you'll find it."
"Show me"
So I grabbed the controller, and walked around for a little bit. I eventually went into a building and found a guns and ammo scattered all over the place.
"See? You just have to explore a little. Maybe do side quests."
"There are side quests in this game"
After I said that, I facepalmed and left.

I ask this question here, because it seems that a lot of young gamers just run towards the finish and dont pay attention to some things that could actually help them, whereas more mature gamers tend to look around at every nook and cranny to find something of interest.

I wish I knew.
After he said that, I knew how he progressed in the game so fast.

My single play thought of deus ex took 24.5 hours :D
With every side mission done (spoilers) of course.

For future reference, I'm tempted to do "Foxiest of the Hounds" on give me deus ex difficulty for my 2nd playthrough.

Your brother sounds like an FPS cigarette.

Younger people are to focused on winning. I savor game experiences as much as I can, even Fallout is a game I refuse to finish.

When I got Fallout3 GOTY, it took me a week to explore and obtain everything.

I acutally find this very true: i never find loving anything but my older brother has like 5 times more points/stuff in the same point i am

This.

I refuse to fight the final boss in Kingdom Hearts II because I want to unlock everything first.

It won't lock your file if you beat it, you'll just restart from the latest save point before fighting the boss if you reload the file

It seems biased to refer to the two types as "Amateur" and "Mature" when referring to how you spend your time playing a game.

I finish games first, and then go back to explore everything once I'm done.
