Take all that bottled up anger, and say "YOU GUYS ARE SO ARROGANT. something like that. If you try reason calmly, which it sounds like you have, they'll just dismiss it as you being rebellious or something. If you feel the need, debunk how they're trying to do what they want because of a mid-life crCIA. Obviously they wouldn't completely forget me but a lot of things can happen in a year that i wouldn't have knowledge of which can make things awkward, also people change over time and if you aren't there to watch it happen the entire time but come back when they have already changed it can completely change the view you have of that person.

I talked about the incident with my mom

I said yes, for the whole '12.

My advice is, before they start talking about the phillipins, get something to piss you off. And when they start talking, well you get it. Talk in a "mildly pissed" tone, slowly raising it over time. That should paint them the picture of "i don't want to go you ignorant forgets".
