Quick questions about changing chassis:
- Can I just take stuff out, disconnecting as little as possible so I wont have to fiddle around with that?
- Is it worth doing that little extra for ESD protection?
- When I am doing other things where should I put the other components, just put it on the floor?
While it's possible, I suggest actually taking everything off. You *might* get away with keeping the CPU heatsink on. Remember, if you have to take it off, get thermal paste to put it back on otherwise you will fry your CPU and board.
Don't put it on the floor, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS CARPET. The static electricity will forget all of your components.
Leave them in the case, and transfer when necessary.
Use some anti-static bags to store PCI cards. The hard drives etc will all stay in your case without the motherboard.
Does anyone know why it did this? I'd like to try and prevent it from doing it again.
It's just one of those things you have to live with.
