Did you use the Windows recovery disk or otherwise known as the installation disk?
No. I started the Windows Repair thing, it verified some files, and did other stuff, and viola, it's fixed.

Quick questions about changing chassis:
  • Can I just take stuff out, disconnecting as little as possible so I wont have to fiddle around with that?
  • Is it worth doing that little extra for ESD protection?
  • When I am doing other things where should I put the other components, just put it on the floor?

Whelp, i'm half forgeted.

Windows vista had a 25% chance to successfully boot up.
Ubuntu decided to scan the disk for errors.
Suddenly vista will NEVER boot up now. Oh well, i never used vista anyways.
Should i just reformat and reclaim the 117GB of space windows vista has taken away with programs and stuff? I tried 10 times to boot it up and safe mode gives the same problem.
It just stops during loading and hard reboots with apparently no errors then claims it was a hardware error.
Startup repair and system recovery does jack stuff and gives the same problem. I have no recovery disks whatsoever.
Just one thing: If you format, you won't get the space back. It will only format the partition(s) you can see. You will need to partition it properly first.

holy crap help help help help help
I just want to turn my computer on today, it powers on, loads, then it just goes to a black screen with a mouse. I can start task manager, and there's only like 7 things running. Right now, I'm in safe mode, and it's working okay. HELP D:
Does anyone know why it did this? I'd like to try and prevent it from doing it again.

While it's possible, I suggest actually taking everything off. You *might* get away with keeping the CPU heatsink on. Remember, if you have to take it off, get thermal paste to put it back on otherwise you will fry your CPU and board.
Don't put it on the floor, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS CARPET. The static electricity will forget all of your components.
Leave them in the case, and transfer when necessary.
Use some anti-static bags to store PCI cards. The hard drives etc will all stay in your case without the motherboard.

It's just one of those things you have to live with.

So will it happen again?

So will it happen again?
When was the last time you reformatted?
I try to do it AT LEAST once every 2 years so that it keeps it all fresh and working well. This stuff tends to happen if you don't do it that often or have too many startup items.

Reviews said the MSI had bad build quality, I'm looking at a 15R right now.

I heard that after you put all the parts in the first boot up you do you should not have the case closed. But yet I've seen videos where they have the case closed on the first boot up.

Fedoras installer deletes all the partitions.
And i mean ALL of them, even the hidden ones such as the recovery partition..

The MSI what?
Links please.
Also, MSI is one of the best quality brands.

Huh?

I re-did the steps you provided and now everything was back to normal. I'd save up for a desktop but I don't like the idea that someone could sneak up behind me watch me do stupid stuff on Gmod. How much would an extra 6 gig of ram cost by the way?

I looked at the alternative laptop options and decided to look at amazon.
Now i'm glad i did.
I might go with this laptop with that beautiful quad core processor. Video card can most likely run what i want. Is the video card equal or better then a ATI/amd/whateveritis radeon 4200?
If so, it does exactly what i want it to do and i'll most likely get that laptop and some headphones to go with it.

I've had it for...
Eh, 1.5 years?
