Author Topic: The Computer Megathread  (Read 492686 times)

Whoa,whoa. What just happened?
All hard drive prices went up like, $50. What?
There was a flood in Taiwan some weeks ago. Destroyed a lot of hard drives.

A few weeks ago, my parents took their computer in.

They had to:

Replace the PSU
Reinstall XP Home
Clear off "crap" as my dad requested (i.e my stuff. all of it.)

It cost about 300$.

what why.

Also, their computer bluescreens when I play games sometimes. I really want to be able to play TF2 and CS:S and other games, but I don't want to worry about breaking their computer. :|

4th page? HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?
Bump.

Maybe my dad could pay for the hard drive since they cost so much now. When should they start lowering prices?

Edit: Nevermind, but the upgrade is what i'm going to try to go for anyways.

Ok, I just opened up my computer,
I was able to locate the video card for sure
Everything else i was iffy on, any help?

Edit: once again, i forgeted up on myself.

I'm going to assume your OS is vista/7
Open the start menu.
Search dxdiag.
Click dxdiag.
Post results from general/display tab.
how is that helpful?
maybe im just too tired to figure out, but it seems as he OPENED HIS COMPUTER AND COULD ONLY FIND THE GPU, AND DIDNT KNOW WHAT EVERYTHING ELSE WAS?

anyways, maybe this helps?

expansion card being the card that uses any of your PCI-E slots, like a GPU in case you didnt know that
and the power supply is sometimes located at the bottom instead of the top, usually gaming chassis' though
and on top of the processor is a big metal thing with fans and copper tubing located, which is used to cool the processor. in case you didnt know that

BTW that diagram was kindly supplied by Wedge (thanks man), and is also found on the OP.

Are these specs any good?
Mac Pro
Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” processors
6GB (six 1GB) memory (easily upgradable to a ridiculous 24gb)
1TB hard drive (can get four 2tb HDDs in RAID config)
18x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5 (could get a 6970/6990 to upgrade)

Yes, it's a Mac.

You can do it right in the Catalyst Control Center using the overdrive menu.

ha-ha, very funny.

It's $3,499.
And, if I get all A's by the end of this semester, I'll at least have a part for my build. Not the computer, the build.

If I have all A's by the end of this year, and I have my CCNA, I'll get the Mac.
