So I should also look into higher power supply along with a x16 PCIe graphics card?

I think most graphics cards now are x16.

So what would be your opinion on this case.

That looks pretty decent and sturdy.

Thanks, Ethan
Ok the complete scan didnt find any new malicious files. Ill see if this works tomorrow
Download Driver Sweeper, boot in safe mode, and get rid of all your graphic drivers.
The fact that it's fine in Safe Mode when it doesn't initialize third party drivers makes me think that it is your drivers.

Guys I'm looking to get a graphics card for christmas, with a price range at about $200 to $250 max.

Any ideas?

also if you recommend me one, telling me what i'd be able to run with it would be great. Thanks. Also since i'm not that smart when it comes to computer hardcare, a PCI Express card can fit in a PCI slot (not saying express) right?
No, you will need a PCI-E slot.

No, it cannot.
If your card is PCIe x16 (most AM3 sockets have a PCIe x16 slot, your CPU is an Athlon II, so it's likely an AM3/AM3+,) you can upgrade depending on your power supply and making sure your CPU doesn't bottleneck anything.
Your CPU probably (unsure) could support a 6750 without it bottlenecking much.

EDIT
Upon looking further into your specific model type, your motherboard does have PCIe x16 and a card matching the bus type will fit.
However, you may have a really low power supply, it may be  300 - 400 watts, but I have no clue.
If his budget is $200 to $250, he has enough for a new PSU and a GPU that won't bottleneck.
Also, I'd suspect the highest he will get without a major bottleneck will be 6770 or 6790.

Back to it: I love how you bought an ASUS prebuilt. Good choice, they are usually pretty good and easy to upgrade. Has a PCI-E slot, AM3 socket and looks like a decent sized case.

However, the PSU is indeed a 300w.

Total: ~$145 with rebates.

Actually, if you have that much money left over, get this as well:

$5 over budget, but quad core plus a decent video card will feel like an entirely new system.

So what games could I run with a 6950 overclocked with the default overclocking tool in CCC at what resolution?
Also, is my Phenom II X4 3.2GHz a bottleneck these days? I haven't been up to par with PC gaming since my graphics card died.
I can still overclock it to 3.4-5.0GHz if I need to to. I have this heatsink I bought a couple months ago and I forget the name but it is one of those ones that have the many fins and has a 120mm fan on the side that connect down to a base. Ever since I installed it the temp in my case has been cooler than my room.

Phenom II X4 shouldn't be a bottleneck to a 6950 OC. Also, expect most games maxed out at 1920x1080.

Okay, so my graphics card fried and I just upgraded on my card. Note: I have an AGP slot I know outdated bllaaahahoa

Is this a good card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161337&Tpk=AGP%20iceq

If not, I already ordered so whatever I am just curious. :l

My friend lent me his old M11x alienware for tonight to see how it fares.

Our original deal was that I would give him my old PSU + HDD + CPU + mobo + RAM and he would supply a case + DVD drive + Windows + GPU to make a very decent medium level gaming computer to sell for around $500 (will post it when it's up for sale).  We would split it $400 to me and $100 to him out of fairness but if I decide to keep the M11x he gets an extra $200 out of my $400.

It's the cheapest M11x out there though.  2GB RAM, Core 2 Duo 1.3 GHz (can't OC; it crashes when it does), and a 335M.  But it handles Civ5 decently so I think I'll take it and load some games on there anyways.

-amazing stuff-

Wow thanks so much, that's great.

I'll definitely be getting those three then, appreciate the help.

System 1
Code: [Select]
CPU: Intel Extreme i7-990X OC'd to 4.5GHz on air
Motherboard: ASRock Gen3 Pro LGA1155 Z68
Graphics card: 2 HD6990s in Crossfire with custom Arctic Cooling heatsinks
RAM: 16GB G-Skill DDR3-1600

Also has an OCZ SSD.

How do you have a ASRock Gen3 Pro LGA1155 when the Intel Extreme i7-990X has a 1366 CPU socket?

I overclocked my 6870 to around 6950 performance. So I *think* that your 6950 would be able to go up to around 6970 speeds if you go high enough. Depending how good of an overclocker your card is.

A Phenom II x4 would not be a bottleneck at 1080p, there's much more GPU power needed at 1080p then CPU power. Most of the best processors only vary a little 3FPS from their AMD counterparts at 1080p. However, at lower resolutions, it may bottleneck at stock. However, OC it a bit and you're good to go. :D

A while back when I had a decent graphics card, a working CD drive and a SATA harddrive, I overclocked my processor to 3.6GHz for fun even though I had no voltage control, GTA IV was very smooth...until I BSOD'd.
So therefore that's why I belive it's a bottleneck. :u

stuff, I feel like a real richardhead now lol.

I was looking at a SB build that had that motherboard. And it looked similar to my one, so I must've put that one instead, lol. Didn't end up getting the SB build :( Got a laptop instead.

I have an Asus Rampage III Formula 1366 X58.

Does this mobo have a built in wifi thingy?

Doesn't look like it.
I wouldn't expect many to have them TBH. Cause wireless is a lot slower and more unstable than ethernet connections. Not really good for gaming.
If you REALLY require wireless, I'd pick up a decent wireless PCI card for your system.
