Steam Crashes my Asus Laptop. I just updated all the drivers but whenever i run it it freezes up my computer. Help :C

My friend is going to get this GPU:

Now I'm wondering if it needs a cable from the power supply plugged into it or not. His psu might not be powerful enough.

I want to get this card:

I have the 6-Pin connectors required to power it and a PCI Express 16x Lane, but there is a wire protruding from the power supply which is blocking the way. I've measured the space (8 Inches) but the card is 12 Inches. Any suggestions?

got my monitor and power supply for christmas :D

now they sit in a corner seeing as how i cant do anything without the other parts!

Just installed Ubuntu on my new pc build. It works great!

Now I have another question. My cpu fan it constantly on high. Why is that? The temperature say 44c degrees Celsius. Is that good?

I'm looking to buy an amd 6970 with some work/christmas money. Can you suggest the best brand to buy? I was looking at this gigabyte one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125371 mostly just because the 3 fans drew my attention. actually I better measure the room that I have, the above card looks too big. Yeah I only have a bit less than 11 inches of space.
Current system specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series
PSU: 800 watt
I'm also using 2 monitors if that effects anything regarding manufacturer choice.

It freezes up my computer too. It seems to affect all my brother's computers too.

That's good. My CPU is at at 47º C idle when OC'd to 3.4GHz, while it's 44º C idle when not OC'd. Your temperature is very good. Why the CPU fan might always be on max: did you or someone else turn off the CPU fan control in the BIOS settings? Does your motherboard even HAVE that feature?

There's an XFX Radeon HD 6870 that's 8.66", it's this one.

i got 300 bux for chrimby. Any graphics card with some "oomph" under 200 bucks? I still need enough to upgrade my power supply.

I've also only got a 2 core. Should I upgrade that first?

It really depends on your processor architecture and your RAM, Captain.

Yeah, I can change the fan speed. It was set on the highest setting when I looked at it. I turned it down some but I let it run for a while and it got up to 51ºC just idle. Though there is a setting on it that is the preferred temp. and it's set at 50ºC.

Would it be possible to use the same back mounting bracket for diffrent CPU Coolers? I have a Hyper 212+ on an LGA 1155. The Motherboard cutout on my case is not large enough. Could I keep the back bracket there and upgrade to a Corsair H70 without having to remove it all?

probably.

Hey Ethan, I was wondering if you could work with me to make a cheap gaming pc to run games like APB Reloaded, Always wanted to play that game but my pc Sux.

So, here's the problem:

I got a new 550W power supply and an ATI radeon HD 6870 video card for christmas. In my excitement, I unhooked the power cables of my old CPU, unscrewed it and took it out. Then I reassembled my new PSU and video card with all the cables in the right slots. When I turned it on, all the fans started spinning, the lights went on, but I there wasn't anything showing up on my monitor. I tried reconnecting certain parts, the hold-the-button-for--seconds trick, but nothing helped. So I unscrewed the PSU and the GPU and put back my old ones. The same thing happened. Is there anything i'm doing wrong? All cables are in the right spots. Here's where the cables go:

  • My 20-pin cable goes into the 24-pin on my motherboard (It has always worked like this)
  • My 4-pin cable goes into a 4-pin slot near my GPU
  • My HDD goes via a SATA cable to my SATA1 port
  • My DVD-Drive goes via a SATA cable to my SATA2 port
  • My DVD-Drive and HDD both have power cables connected to them

I still have 1x4 cable which I couldn't find a spot for hanging loose in my case.
Please help :o
