Author Topic: The Computer Megathread  (Read 455709 times)

holy cheese
At around 5pm till the next morning my internet randomly just stops working well.
I can still browse the internet but it loads slowly and youtube videos are extinct.
Steam won't even connect properly so I can't play any games.
Nobody is downloading anything, I checked.
I'm on a wired connection through a special plug-in wifi wire adapter, it's been great till the last few days.
Is it my computer? Help me ;C

EDIT: I'm with Sky Internet unlimited bandwidth + a netgear router.
Didn't know if this went here, so I made another topic but am posting this here anyway. :c

Actually I'd rather not buy a hard drive locally, any recommendations?

Still is doing this all drivers are up to date I have my appointment still with apple this saturday at 10:15 AM CST.

Ninja:  Took a look at it again and it seems to as well forget up my attached display as I haven't looked at that while on mac osx.

If it's ok on Windows, then it's not your GPU or monitor. It's definitely a setting/software thing of some sort. I'm not familiar with macs but surely there is a display calibration setting that will definitely only affect the mac partition? All of the GPU control panels (nVidia configuration, Catalyst Control Center etc) on Windows only affect that partition.

Also, for the stuck pixel, apply force to it for 5 seconds, give it 5 seconds to recover, and repeat 5 or so times. It will most likely fix itself in the coming days after this.

So less RAM, but you think everything else fits the bill? Here I'll re-post it as some of the parts have gone out of stock:

HDD: Buying locally
That's good. The case is a bit overkill, however not too expensive so yeah.

Are other computers/devices able to get standard speeds?

How big are you wanting it?

500 at most my only fear is that Hard Drives don't seem too reliable when ordered online. And what would you recommend for a different case?

Is that a reasonable price for you?

Also, none really. $60 is really good for a case, so I can't see anything better. It's just a big gaming case and doesn't really suit, but that's a small issue I guess :P

Well my parents get okay speeds but the most they do is mostly email and internet browsing (not youtube, or downloading things).

I can browse the general internet fine. :c

Yea thanks, I'm going to go ahead and purchase the parts. Reddit didn't really help in the end so thanks guys!

Try downloading something then on another PC.

my dad won't let me download anything on his laptop
and the other computer is an old emac which is extremely slow anyway so i wouldnt be able to tell the difference
my xbox gets o-k-a-y speeds but not great

Reddit wanted you to have a gaming computer, not a Minecraft server. You could still have a gaming computer if you get a video card later on for it.

And I got my replacement PSU today, I actually have steady voltages now (1.403V VCORE, 3.348V 3V, 5.021V 5V, 12.038 12V)
I get a better video card performance now too (the fan actually runs on it!)

Well the issue with this I have tried calibrating on mac osx myself but nothing makes it work and the colors are set to default the way it should be when you first get the mac with a brand new OS which is what happened last august when my HDD corrupted and needed replacing in 2011.  But, it is forgeted up and won't normalize again but I am for sure now going to apple tomorrow and btw your stuck pixel thing I didn't even have to do apparently it just is gone now so it fixed itself.

Oh, by the way, do I need any other extra items like cords for the PC?

The PSU should come with one, and you could use the monitor cable that comes with the monitor (unless you're have a monitor for it, then just use the cord with that one.)
