Author Topic: The Computer Megathread  (Read 486486 times)

I heard that the higher 600s, like the 670-680s will be out in late March/late April, most likely April.

Then the rest will follow in the summer.

I'm gonna save up as much as possible so I can maybe get a 680 at some point.

According to this you can guess about how much it costs and when it might be released. If what it says is true, I will probably get a GTX 670 as it is estimated as ~20%>7970 and is $499. Which is the same price as a 7950. April 14th is also pretty early.

Though these are simply rumors and might not be true, I sure hope it is true :)

My friend suggests this build to me:

Case
CPU
Mobo
HSF
RAM
GPU
PSU
ODD
HDD
Win 7
Static Wristband <=== So I don't forget or something.

Will this be able to run any game in Ultra HD? Is there anything you recommend I change? Am I missing anything? Also I was thinking of getting more than 8GB of RAM, can I support that and what RAM would you recommend?

1. This motherboard is better and cheaper:

2. Get this better cooler version of the GPU:

3. Cheaper, and probably better for a home user:

4. You don't need low voltage RAM:

5. 8GB RAM is ample for pretty much anything nowadays, unless you are hosting many servers at the same time.

when i plug the ac adapter into it the little green light on the battery block dims, apparently that means there was a short somewhere??
Uh, I don't think so. Does it still work fine?

What exactly am I looking for? (on the sticker)
Edit: This should be helpful:
425w low quality. That will definitely need an upgrade. That really cuts down on your GPU choices. Budget $200 still?

Alright just tell me some recommended stuff that doesn't cost a small fortune.

-snip-

Thanks updated my post, but I still think I want a 16Gb RAM just because it's not much more expensive and partially because I want to up-show my friends dad who has 12Gb. Also could I borrow The CPU, PSU, and RAM off your 1500 dollar build to my current one?

Yes, yes and yes. Just as a note, the PSU won't really make much difference, they are both about the same. The Corsair is a bit higher quality and looks better too IMO.

Built my first computer this January. I wanted good performance, but also wanted it to look exceptionally good. Red and Black theme.

(Took the picture with my phone, so crappy quality)

Recently I've added a red LED strip to the top part of the case. It also has two front red LED fans. They aren't very bright, but I was hoping they wouldnt be. Specs:

Asrock Z68 Fatal1ty Motherboard
Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3GHz
Nvidia GTX 570 EVGA HD
400GB HDD Boot/1TB Storage
Corsair 400r Case
Hyper 212 CPU Fan
OCZ Modxstream 700w PSU
Corsair Vengeance (Red) 8GB 1600 RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
HP Optical Drive

Total cost was around $1,200.

and we need to know how much room you have in your case from the PCIe lane to anything obstructing it, such as a HDD bay.

You wanted red and black but you didn't get an AMD card? That's their trademark color scheme :(

My computer will not start. Not sure why though. I was just watching youtube videos when it suddenly powered down. After that, it couldn't start back up. Opened it up, blew it out a bit and it started again, but it shut down again after only about 20 minutes of using it. Now it refuses to start no matter what I do. Does anybody have any idea why this might be happening. I am convinced it's the power supply, but is there anything else that could be the problem?

I got the 570 last summer for a small HP computer. Of course, it was overheating. Therefore I then saved up money to build a computer around it. I also just prefer Nvidia cards. Something about them that I like.

Is it a computer you bought or built? Does the computer make any noises upon start up that are not normal? Does it just go to a black screen as if you pressed the power button, or does it kind of freeze and then randomly shut off? Specs for your system would be nice too.

This may sound like a silly request, but have you tried pulling out the power cord and then putting it back in?

Multiple times. Each time I do so, the fans will spin for a fraction of a second, then promptly turn off.

It was purchased from someone that built it for me. It makes no noise when it starts up, because it won't.

Specs I can't provide, as I don't have access them.

Sounds like a power supply problem. Try another.
