Alright, to hell with getting a laptop. My dad, who doesn't know much about computers, even agrees that I should get a desktop, since I can just upgrade it and replace parts when I need to. Thing is, the recommended parts going by each budget in the OP is outdated, the prices have increased. Second, I would need to buy a monitor too. How would I go about choosing one of those for my $800 budget?
You want me to get you a parts list, computer + monitor, for $800 total?

Yeah, the hard drive prices have gone up with the floods in Thailand but they are going back down soon.

Yo, found some custom dust filters for the 932. I'm probably going to order tonight.

That's cool haha.

Is that too much to ask?

Is that too much to ask?
Haha no, I was just double checking lol. And it was also a hint, need windows? keyboard? mouse? etc...

That's why I made this topic, I enjoy helping.

I'd personally go for the first one. It's smaller (15.6" vs 17.3") and it's, IMO, marginally better. However they are still both really good.
Thanks eathan, you're the best. I'm going with the one in bold, because like you said, it's marginally better [At least aesthetically for me, although the glossy finish on the back of the top is eww.
I WAS going to go with this one, but then, you know, they killed it.

Edit: Will the laptop you suggested be able to play modern games at high-med graphics? [Blockland, Skyram, BF3, MW3, Minecraft, ect.]

-My specs-

Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 630 (came with comp)

Video Card: ATI RADEON HD 5670 1GB (upgrade)

RAM: 6GB

Overall: Meh, average computer, can run a 128x128 texture pack on Minecraft with 30 FPS.

That Asus was pretty damn equal to the bolded one.

Also, yeah. Look up some 540m benchmarks and/or videos if you want. They are pretty decent :)

Pretty balanced. Most people have a really crappy CPU with a high end GPU or vice versa. Yours is mid range in both ends. Good :)

Yeah, Windows 7 preferably. Keyboard, yes. Already have a mouse.
Come to think of it, I was only thinking of the parts for the case. Could I get a list of everything I need, except a mouse?

EDIT: Actually, could you also suggest a mouse? Preferably a wired mouse and keyboard. I don't want to have to buy batteries once and a while. :P

EDIT: Also, could you possibly list an nVidia Graphics card? I'm more fond of nVidia.

Yeah, except I don't know what a benchmark is or what it does for a computer.
Also, I've heard that Acer is a leading monitor manufacturer; can I trust that the screen on this one will be love?

Edit: I don't know what this means. It looks bad

I have a Compaq 615 and I wan't to sell it,
How much can I ask for it?

I've broken many power supplies in my life, and two of them were while watching YouTube videos. Afterwards they would only spin up for a moment like yours. Some power supplies just don't like YouTube apparently...
You're going to have to replace it.

Mine broke while on YouTube as well. Got the new one in the mail today. Works like a charm.

Message to Ethan

I would just like to say that I did, In fact, purchase that VAIO that I was previously interested in, and it runs like a dream.

No lag on Blockland nor Minecraft at FULL graphics. You were wrong.

I thank you for the input, but unfortunately, was wrong.

lol blockland and minecraft.

Try running a game like Crysis 2.

$15000 build please ,no typo 15-thousand dollar build. Going for a red and black theme. Monitor included.

15-thousand dollar build

If you can, hold on to that $15k until Ivy Bridge and the Geforce 600 series comes around.
