Yay, finally got my Ubuntu partition working correctly.  It turns out that the linux-backports-modules-2.6-cw(etc) package fixes the Atheros driver error (Though it needs to be reinstalled for every new kernel version.)  Then when I installed the latest beta Nvidia driver, Unity suddenly stopped loading.  Installing the linux header package fixed that.

Installing the linux header package fixed that.
What package name would this be? I want to see if it's available for Fedora, as GNOME crashes every time I install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs, and it's pissing me off that I don't get full 3D performance.

which driver version are you using, exactly?  The 310 driver beta?  The package name for Ubuntu at least was linux-headers.

The 310 driver beta?
Yes, I'm attempting to use an akmod-nvidia package with the 310 beta.
Thanks for the package, it's the same package name, but I have an outdated version. This might be why I'm experiencing the crashes. Thanks!

Just remember to reinstall the nvidia driver afterward.  Good luck!

Replace all of the $300-$1000+ list of parts, most of them are outdated, particularly the HD 6000 and GTX 500 series.

After waiting for the 104MB package to download (presto made it 27MB due to having certain parts in my cache from before) and install, my computer is up and running Fedora 17 with 3.6.6 kernel and the proprietary drivers installed. However, for whatever reason, lsmod states I'm using pata_marvell again instead of sata_marvell, which isn't that much of an inconvenience, as only my Blu-Ray drive is hooked up to it, but that shouldn't happen. Maybe it replaced one of the kmods that had blacklisted pata_marvell?

My friend is looking for a decent NVIDIA GPU under $120, any suggestions? I had looked at this for a while:

The 550 Ti performs better than that card, why not get one of those?

If you want to compare cards I'd personally use www.videocardbenchmarks.net

Can someone link me to the cheapest possible laptop that could run TF2 at mid settings with 60 fps and binding of isaac at lowest settings at a decent fps?
Thanks

Anyone has any personal experience with ASUS' DirectCu II GTX 660 Ti?
Is it worth it?

Asus is a quality company, and that looks like a pretty decent cooler. Go for it if you want a 660

Does it have to be NVIDIA?
The gt640 is horrible and the GTX650 isn't great either. Your best choice is getting a deal on a Radeon HD 7770. They're generally $130-$140 but sometimes you can get them below $120 after MIR.
