Sucks about the hard drive crash.

My laptop started telling me my hard drive was going to "imminently fail". I got a new hard drive on warranty (interestingly it was a faster 7200RPM replacement, the original was a mediocre 5400) and I did a clone onto the new drive. Swapped it over and everything was fine!

Wanted to keep my old one but the company demanded I return it, as expected. Obvo I did a full erase by writing 0's over it before sending.

When was the last time the X window manager was updated?
TWM? Probably in like, the nineties. You're not really supposed to use it for anything. I just don't have the space for say, MATE.

and I haven't a clue what my GPU will be yet.

But I need someones opinion, due to my brothers extreme arrogance, he will no longer help me with a computer, so I need your guys help.
Is this a good set?

Outdated processor. Get one that's not from 4 years ago.
Why are you using some website probably nobody's even heard of? Buy from reputable dealers so you can have piece of mind.
If you give a budget, what you want it to do, and if you favor any specific brands. I'll gladly put a build together for you.

This is what my brother told me to go use. My b udget is also $300

Either way, you're not going to get much for $300. I'll try after you say what you want it to do.

I have no specific brands in mind since this is my first build. Budget is $300-$400 and I want it to be a gaming PC.

So as good as you can get it (which isn't going to be very good?)

I'd like to point whether the parts are old or not, they played all the new games today on medium/low settings, and played all the games before 2009 on max settings. So I'm getting multiple opinions on things.

To be honest I think that it'd be better to buy everything and then buy a graphics card when you have more money. You can buy better parts for your main build and then buy something easy to swap out like a graphics card later.
