Minecraft won't work well for you if thats the case.

My mac could play Minecraft with normal fog settings and it has 1GB of ram.

2GB is a loving upgrade man!

i have 2GB ram
i can run Minecraft on its highest settings just fine

anyway, for specs,
Start > Run > dxdiag
if it has DirectX (preferably v9 or higher) then you can get a detailed list of your specs.

but since its XP, theres a chance this doesn't work. try it out anyway
im pretty sure windows comes with DirectX by default, but you never know.

Ok I have DirectX 9 I have 1.60Ghz for my processor. Where exactly do I find the amount of Hard Drive space I have?

Holy stuff I may only have 180 MB of memory. Please tell me were to find out so I can say it isn't so.

your hard drive will be labeled "Local Disk C:" by default

everything about that runs on the computer will be stored here.
most windows programs will also go under "Program Files" (located in C:)

My Computer
Right click C: and click properties

It's possible it's been partitioned into multiple drives so if there's multiple do the same for them and add up the numbers.

OK good I have 37 20 GB of free memory. That's not a hell of a lot but at least I can install steam and maybe TF2. 37 is the total.

protip: when you install windows programs and it asks you where you want to install it, always click OK/Next when it says:

"C:\Program Files\[company/program/name]\[program]" or something similar
as long as it says C:\Program Files somewhere in the name, its fine

however some programs install multiple components in different folders.

get an external hard drive
like 1 trillabyte or whatever the duck its called

This sounds like a good idea Will do.

Man I can't wait till I get my gaming computer on Christmas. I checked how much RAM i have. Only 1 GB. But only 894 MB useable. So this kind of sucks. In order for me to play Minecraft good I have to run it on suckish graphics

I have 37.2 :D

...with 2.66 GBs free loool

Also you might be able to put your 2gb ram card/whatever into your desktop and put the 1gb in your laptop, though I'm not a computer whiz.
